Cheong Wa Dae May Ask World Press to Speak Korean
Cheong Wa Dae could compel foreign reporters to ask the president questions in Korean only during press conferences, a newspaper reported on Friday. The Seoul Shinmun said Cheong Wa Dae is seriously considering the measure because it believes etiquette demands that overseas reporters speak the local language when they ask questions of the countys head of state.
//
The paper quoted a Cheong Wa Dae official as saying it was awkward that the president had to wait for questions to be translated for him during a live broadcast, adding there was no reason why foreign reporters shouldnt use the language of their host country. |

I can't imagine that Roh is REALLY upset about having to answer translated questions at a press conference. I suspect he's just saying this kinda crap to pander to the Korea Uber Alles crowd, who must be feeling kinda down in the dumps lately, what with the Hwang scandal and whatnot.
And of course when someone with a basic understanding of the world points out the sheer infeasability of Roh's proposal, he'll turn around and accuse them of being anti-Korean. |

This is stupid. It's better for him to have questions translated. Depending on his English (ie if he understood the question when asked, or atleast the subject) it would give him more time to think of an answer while it is being translated |
