That was the IRA, which now has some political clout.

I��m sure I��ve heard Blair say that they (his government) will not negotiate with terrorists, and Bush has said the same thing. What is odd is that the British have negotiated with the political wing of the IRA, and for that past few years the IRA has been mostly inactive in bombings

But did the IRA call for the destruction and relocation of Britian in its entirety?

Should they have been negotiated with, if this were the case, or would too many have said they were off of their rocker?

It's not odd at all. Peace agreements were feasible because the IRA were ready to compromise and commit themselves to the pursuit of their goals through democratic means. When it comes to Islamic extremists, who exactly would we negotiate with, and on what terms would such talks be carried out?
