Now that I'm here and making good money, I want to start getting into cycling. Does anyone know of any good shops where I can buy a bike, clothes, and other equipment? Any good trails? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Daegu is a city build for cars and public transport and I'd think very seriously about cycling anywhere but the gym. If you are getting kitted out make sure you get a helmet.

I take the 5 mintue bike ride from home to work everyday. Quite the advetnure.

As for mountains and paths ... I don't seem to recall bikers up on the mountains (may be completely wrong though)

I signed up for the Internet and got my bike at a cost of 20,000. 21 speed, fairly light... Don't know much about bikes but it is nice and shiny.

There was a bike shop near where I used to live in Yongsan-dong. It had some nice bikes too, I don't think it had clothing though.

There was a couple of foreigners that used to go there and I'm sure they would be able to give you info on where all the people go that shop there.

along the Shinchon (Shin Stream) there is a bike/walking path that cuts right through the core of the city. it then joins up with the river near Kyungbook University which in turn has loads of nice pathways.

where are you living in Daegu? maybe i could sggest somewhere for you to ride without having to battle the traffic to get there.

as for bike shops, i know of none in particular but they are al over the place. i remember a rather newer looking one near the intersection where Withus Bookstore and Casamia is located.
as for clothing, i noticed the Nike and Adidas shops have some bike wear.

It's true that Daegu is no dream paradise for the ardent cyclist

You could do worse, though. The main thoroughfares are nice and wide and straight. Don't worry bout the acquisition of a helmet. If it comes to the need for that, it'll be a latter day thing. I always insisted on a cap only as headgear, for superior "sensing". Better alive and whole than a good-lookin' corpse.

I used to turn right at Man Chon and head up to the soccer stadium. Just stay to the limit of the right and live by yr wits. If you're a cyclist of old, then you'll know the tricks.

The bikes in Korea are really value for money, so ....just forge ahead!!!!

You can't live forever. And you'll die knowing that you saved a bunch on taxis and buses!!!

One of the guys who used to work at Keimyung in Sung-seo set up a lot of ramps and jumps on one of the mountains that border the uni. I don't know if they are still there, but if you want, I can post more details here.

A couple of years ago my wife and I went to Korea and hauled our bikes over there from Canada. We were in Busan but there was a huge amount of awesome mtn biking to do there. It wasn't the rockies but it sure had its own appeal. I remember riding up Kumjongsan, riding along a rough trail to the south gate then over to the north gate. There was a lot of technical riding in those hills also. Not to mention the hikers. I had a blast though. If you contacted the bike shop where I used to ride they could set you up with all the gear you need as well as put you in touch with any clubs there might be in Daegu. I just got a Kona mountain bike for less than I would have paid in Canada. I haven't found any real trails near my place yet, but the small store near my apartment where I got it seems to be a cycling club and they all ride mountain bikes, but their bikes are pretty clean, so I don't know if they're actually trail riding or not.
