It'd be a good experience for three months.

Then one could see, go elsewhere, whatever.

Wonder if everyone has to do a visa run for the three-month contracts.

I'm at an english village in seongnam and we get the same pay with a one year contract plus housing. It looks to be about the same teaching schedule except we're supposed to be doing 160 hours a month.
We actually need some teachers so we can start our weekend program.

ummm I read the description. How are they giving an E2 visa on a 3 month contract?

30 million won is a measly slary are you kidding?

That 5 million won more than most of the jobs in Korea for no experience with meals inculded and you don't pay a dime for your living quarters. Plus the majority of it you can send home. Plus our end of contract bonus is equal to one months pay so on the last month you get 5 million won. I don't know what kind of standards you have but this is a seriously sweet deal.

oh and I hate to inform you of this but not everyone in the world is white. Sorry.

Considering that it's only 96 hours a month (plus free meals), it's not a bad deal considering that most regular hagwons make you work 120. While it may not be the ideal contract for a newbie, it's good for someone who has there own housing in Seoul . 2.5? I'd take it if I wasn't under contract right now Sad

Plus, it seems kinda fun considering you're not in a classroom all day teaching the same books with the same kids

I would consider 2.5 a month as measly as a measle if I had to teach 40
classes a week. I trust you aren't working at that camp where everyone
was promised 2.5 a month but then got a net sum of 1.5 after taxes. Cool

I've looked at the posting a few times now, and it really doesn't seem terrible. The only thing that seems to be missing from a regular NA contract is the airfare, and the bonus seems a bit low. Also, I would be sure to ask what the hourly rate for OT is. You could stay in a love motel and clear a bit more than the average teacher with a regular one-year contract...I'm not sure if you'd want to live in one of those places for a whole year though(although I do know some people who do and have). Is it possible for a 3-month E-2 visa? Anyway, this is the second place that I've heard of that does things similar to this. The other place apparently pays for the extra visa runs to Hong Kong. With YBM, I wonder if they pay for the visa runs? Make sure you ask about tax - I hope this isn't another one of those 27% C-4 scams like the one at HUFS.

Well I don't know what you guys expect but I don;t' thin this is a measly slary at all. Quite honestly I teach 6 class per day so it's 30 hours per week and I do 1 1/2 of club which is only 3 times a week and it's a rotation so i'm not doing it every week. Soon they're gonna start weekend programs but it's like if you do the weekend you get two days off during the week.
I like to work my ass off that's how I am I honestly. You can live in Korea for 500,000 won a month but i'm not paying for food so I can probably live for a lot less than that.

I don't see why anyone is calling this a measly salary when I don't pay for food or housing. You should compare a university job to anything other than another univeristy jobs they're totally different. OH and you're counting wrong it's not under 16,000 an hour because I got paid $12 and hour at my old job in the states and my monthly salary was half of what i'm getting now.

I mean really. I'm teaching 6 hours a day and i'm having a blast. You can call it a measly salaray all you want i'll sit here and have fun with my kids. Right now i'm in the Fast Food Restaurant and it's great. I have them ordering food for an hour and I give them US dollars to use as payment and I have fake food. The kids are only here for a week at a time and they never have the same class twice so I can do this lesson for as long as I want because it won't be a repeat lesson for any of the kids. This job is a blast and I love the pay. I'm being paid a shit load of money to have fun all day. Sure give me 160 hours i'm having a blast.

This is a pic of the kids doing one of the activities. I have one set us as the cashier and the rest of the class orders food from them.

I'm not trying to change the purpose of the thread i'm just saying. it's a shit load of fun doing this so I don't think i'm being unerpaid at all. I'm insulted that anyone can think to say i'm being exploited. I'm being pampered. I've run into so many other teachers here and none of them are getting close to what i'm getting. I'm happy and that's all that matters anyways You can keep your university jobs I like my job just fine.

I think it makes sense that they don't provide housing since it's a 3 month contract but agree with the previos poster. This is more ideal for a person already in Seoul. Also i'm not sure what kind of money you need to live in Seoul on a month basis. Like I get the same salary but i'm in Seongnam and we're so hidden away on this hill that I don't spend a dime the entire week. So add to it that I don't pay for food or housing and no phone bill it's like. 2.5 million won a month with no expenses.
Anyways i'm done. Anygry people tend to talk a lot but all I have to do is not reply anymore right?

I work at a very similar type village and it really isn't a good contract. 2.5 million won is fine but not for those hours. We get 2.0-2.3 million for 88 40 minute periods a month which is 59 teaching hours month. Our overtime kicks in on a weekly basis after the 22nd 40 minute period. OT is paid at 25000 during week and 40000 on Saturdays(optional) for each 40 minute period. so conceivably if I was crazy enough to work 96 teaching hours I would make somewhere around 3.0-3.5 million a month plus housing and all the usual bells and whistles, severance, pension, health insurance etc..(I usually get about 2.5 like you, but for 100 40 minute periods per month) However, I cannot even imagine teaching 96 actual hours!. Do you really thrive on working that much? Also we get 6 weeks vacation a year. I'm on vacation right now actually, thank god for that. I actually needed the break, I cannot imagine how badly I would need it if I worked the hours in that contract. I wish you the best of luck, don't burn yourself out!
