You all are mistaking "calm" for "being a pushover". Who was it that said, tread quietly and carry a big stick? Losing your temper here is just going to screw you... remaining calm and telling them exactly what is going to happen next... that's "nice" but firm. Right now I hold all the cards and the boss is following my terms. I think I may even be able to get her to pay the Korean teacher.

I agree, though I believe being calm anywhere will usually get you what you want more often than getting angry.

JOE!

What are you thinking? No lowering the price on Buffalo Wings? Tell them to stuff it where the sun don't shine!

Sounds like you handled the situation perfectly. It's all about priorities and you forced them to think of the FT as a higher priority.

True, but we'll see if they continue to see him as a priority now that he has put in his notice.

Things are looking brighter now. I found out my Ko-worker received all of her pay including the two back months, last week while I was in San Francisco. That's a good sign, it means the hagwon owners have come around to the theory that they have to pay their bills... and it seems to indicate that they have the means and the intention to keep the school open.

I just received my work permit and invitation letter from the university in Beijing, so it looks like I'll be off to China sometime around the weekend of the 12th-13th. That's not far off! Got to get that visa and plane ticket now.

How much does the Beijing job pay? Just out of curiosity, of course.

That's pretty good for China. I guess that expenses are next to nothing there. And your in a busy center. Must be some good looking women there too Laughing . I guess that's around 12000 RMB. I saw some jobs advertized once for a principal type position that paid 20,000. That would be sweet.

Anyway, on your salary you could save about the same as in Korea. I'm assuming your rent and flights (maybe) are paid for. I'll bet your hours are minimal too. Good thing you're not in the boonies. I've heard that that can be pretty boring. You speak Mandarin, right?
