Pitcairn Island (U.K. jurisdiction) and Glary Glitter (another U.K. jurisdiction) are about the two most famous international cases in the world with that type of thing.
just curious.. what are some famous canadian ones? |

I have lots of friends.
1. God,
2. Jesus,
3. Holy Spirit,
4. Angels...lots of them,
5. Other crazy christians like myself,
6. Rice Weevils,
7. Grottos and his gang
Beat that!
Seriously though, preaching on righteousness is never going to be fun especially on such a serious topic as this one. |

I think most developed countries have this law in place nowadays.
Presumably to stop peds just paying off corrupt cops in poorer places like India or Thailand and then getting away with it.
Interestingly the US has the second highest number of child prostitutes in the world.

That's good. Thanks. However, it's pretty old data. Is there anything that is more current?

Why not? Imagination is a lot of fun.
Looks like you might be right on the US have a worse problem than Canada. I would like to see that broken down into percentages per population. Before I give you the point. |

Ladyboys. What would happen in Thailand if one of them tried to grab you and you beat the living shit out of it? |

Several decades of western influence appear to have turned parts of Thailand into a cesspit. The flower of the country's womanhood are prostituting themselves on every street, while the men of the country are reduced into smiling calculating poverty-stricken rag bags forcing useless trinkets or unwanted motorbike rides on foreigners. Its a sorry sight.
And then by economic twist, you have a useless congregation of western malehood spending their pension on viagra and being fauned and flattered by impoverished money hungry girls half their age. |

now there is an exaggeration! prostitutes on every street?? come on, the most visible prostitution is that catering to foreigners, so obviously it's concentrated where the foreigners are.. patpong, and certain other areas of bangkok, pattaya etc. Since I tried to stay away from both overly touristy places and sex shops then I was hardly aware of prostitution on my trips to thailand. Of course I know it exists, but your claims of it being on every street are ridiculous. |

Ok..a certain exageration but the trade in humans around foreign tourist resorts is fairly prevalent. Sad that Thailand cannot offer a better living to many of its young people.
Also..the elephants trailed around the city in the evenings- to earn a living for their keepers by wolfing down bags of fruit sold..seems exploitative.
And of course..the poverty induced street sellers thrusting usually unwanted trinkets at you.. |

the majority of prostitution in thailand is for native men, not foreigners. |

and it is conducted behind closed doors, invisible to the average tourist.. what is your point? Rapier made it sound like their were women looking for tricks on every street corner and seemed to be attributing the demise of thailand to foreign tourists. The point you make is correct, I just don't see you point relative to my discussion with rapier.
Perhaps because I said I wasn't "aware" of prostitution while I was there. I meant I wasn't confronted with it because I chose not to be, but I did know that thai men frequent prostitutes in a big way.. as do korean men as do many nationalities. |

Like everyone, I love Thailand. but this is only my 2nd brief visit. As a tourist.
I started to notice a few minor things that could indicate staying here years would drive me nuts..or at least irritate me a little. same as korea.
For example, I got the hello chorus the other day..from a truckful of kids driving by. Less often than Korea, i'll admit, but the behavior is similar.
also thais tend to serve you quite lazilly in restaurants and bars. Its as if you are a mirage or somethuing, they take a while to bring your change or food. And often get some minor detail wrong. then pretend to understand what you tell them, but repeat the mistake.
or..The waiters consistently try to short change you, leaving out 10, 20 baht every time as if you'd never notice. you have to tell them they've
given the wrong change every time. I don't cal them thieving orientals or something as that would be too dramatic a loss of face for an asian- especially over such a small amount.. You have to go along with the idea that they made an innocent mistake and everythings sweet.
Then theres the traffic..Like Korea but speeded up. Or the sheer heat and humidity.
But of course their usually warm, friendly nature and fun loving spirit in most interractions with falangs makes a big difference when comparing to korea.
* Incidentally I've noticed packs of Koreans roaming around looking lost, either their typical groups, or pairs of girls holding eachothers hands everywhere. Slightly funny to see them ccomplaining that the computers aren't in Korean, about 10 mins ago. They also take photos of eachother constantly in front of the silliest or boring background. I mean who wants holiday photos of them posing in front of a brick wall or a tuk-tuk? Insane. |

In Manila.. particularly in Ermita/Malate.. there are quite a few Koreans around.. and quite a few internet cafes seem to be run by Koreans.. and they have on the desktop an either English or Korean option when starting up the computer. |
