dutchman...I hope you're wrong too...as there's no turning back now. The documents we got from the ministry of education state clearly that a language hagwon needs to have 90 sq meters of classroom space, roughly 27 pyung. It may vary from region to region. Question: Did immigration give you permission to work at the kyoshil? If so, why even consider opening a hagwon? |

This will move to the FAQ section. Does anyone have anything to add? |

I'm almost positive that the 27 peyong thing is right. My school was pretty small before we moved and I KNOW we were legit.
Also, I have been told that an F2 visa holder cannot work in a hogwon. That they still need to legally go through the E2 process to work in a language institute. Thats what they told me in the immi office. |

Are you saying that with a certificate from Min of Ed you were able to open a study room? I've been requesting that info for years and got no-where. That's good news. |

You are asking the WRONG people for the info you want. You need to ASK immigration! Only then will you know exactly. Even then, it's subject to change. Immigration has told me that it is ILLEGAL to teach privates with an F2 even though the office of education issues a certificate and sanctions the teachings. Immigration law takes precedence over other laws applying to foreigners. You need their permission to work. Period. |
You don't need immigration's permission on this one, unless you already have another job.
And don't be so sure the Immy people know what they're doing--at least three times now my wife has had to tell them which law book to look it up in before gettng permission to do stuff.
All the laws are there on the web, if your wife has the time to read them. Immigration certainly doesn't half the time!
Also, there are some things that are up to the discretion of the particular office manager--the length of your F2 visa, for example, and the forms you have to fill out. I went yesterday, and they told us we'd have to redo the sponsorship forms, and they wouldn't give me a 3-year visa like they promised last year, only two. We could have gone back and printed out the rules and argued the point, but opted to jump trough the hoops--it only took about an hour at the city records office. The director there said there was no reason why we had to do that over again.
In my opinion, read the rules, and follow them. Don't ask immigration unless you have to. They can't punish you for following the letter of the law, but if you ask, you're obliged to do what they say, and some of them seem to enjoy wielding the beaureaucracy that ensures their jobs (I've wondred why there seems to be 20 or more immigration officers for an area that only has 500 foreigners altogether). |

so what's the status on this?
If I get my f2 and want to teach privates do I just go to the min of education and get a tutoring license?
Where do I find out about this license?
and once having this do I just not declare it to immigration?
can you post me links so I can read all the facts myself?
thanks in advance |
