That's an "Odious" comparison... Actually I joined the "Seoul International Visual Artists Society" (SIVAS) when I first came to Korea, and I was scheduled to be part of a group show - and had plans to do a solo exhibition through them - but plans fell apart. (The directors of SIVAS were American contracters tied to the military, and, when relocation plans suddenly got rolling, all their projects were either put on hold or scaled down. It was a non-profit organization that usually donated 50% of art sales to help North Korean orphans through an affiliated charity group...)

The regular gallery system in Korea - at least in areas like Insa-dong - is very difficult for artists not already very well-known because there are no consignments - just high weekly rents for art space. |
