We've had some music threads - Slayer (peace be upon them), Jazz, Hip-hop, so now we need a PUNK thread.

Basically, we all need many punk songs downloaded from our server of choice. Name any song you don't see amongst the following. BTW, I've deliberately avoided the Clash and Sex Pistols because with The Clash there are far too many to mention and with the Pistols they're too obvious, but feel free to list your fave Clash or Pistols songs if you wanna. I wanna hear something I've never heard before that ROCKS! There are probably many classic omissions from my list. As they said in late-70s London....IT'S PUNK ROCK, YOU BORING OLD FARTS!

Okay, here goes.....

The Lurkers (totally underrated): 'Shadow', 'I don't need to tell her', 'This dirty town', 'Ain't got a clue', 'Ooh, ooh, I love you'.

Slaughter and the Dogs: 'Cranked up Really High'.

The Killjoys - Johnny Won't get to Heaven

The Anti-Nowhere League - So What?, animal, Woman, I hate people, We are the League.

Dead Kennedys - California Uber Alles, Holiday in Cambodia, Soup is good food, Take this job and shove it.

Doctors of Madness - Back from the dead

Elvis Costello and The Attractions - (I don't want to go to) Chelsea

Sham 69 - If the kids are united, Hurry up Harry, Borstal Breakout

Generation X (Billy Idol on vox!!) - King Rocker

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Hong Kong Garden

Iggy Pop/the Stooges - Raw Power

Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers - Chinese Rocks/Born to Lose

The Damned - New Rose

Stiff Little Fingers - Nobody's Hero

Peter and the Test Tube Babies - Banned from the Pubs, The Jinx

Richard Hell and the Voidoids - Blank Generation

Television - anything from the album 'Marquee Moon'

The Sick Things - Bondage Boy

The Skids - Into the Valley, Working for the Yankee Dollar

The Adverts - Gary Gilmore's Eyes

The Ramones - Sheena is a Punk Rocker, Gabba Gabba Hey

UK Subs - I live in a Car

# Punk rock moshing generally involves aimless slamming into one another, the pogo (jumping up and down into other people, invented by Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols according to hearsay), and circle pitting, and is generally much less violent and dramatic than found at hardcore punk shows.

* Hardcore: Hardcore dancing is much faster and formulaic. It also includes people windmilling (rotating their arms in wide circles in time to the music), moves resembling aggressive breakdancing, and solitary martial arts maneuvers. These are often frowned upon by other dancers, especially if attempted at a non-hardcore concert. Another form of hardcore dancing which involves the whole mosh pit is the circle pit, in which people skank at running speed around the circumference of the pit. It can include two-steps, windmills, and swinging the arms and legs violently.

Admit it, this was a blast wasn't it? Oh, god it was a blast! Twisted Evil Its football for young men too estranged from society for organized sports. You had to take your watches and jewelry off and then you had to be hard but fair. You couldn't punch anyone but you could push them around, you could pass people but you couldn't drop them, if someone fell you had to pick them up but then you had to push them around so you wouldn't look too pansy and you did that with a good pogo. After awhile the shirts came off and then the scene started to get too gay. Some of those pits were too big and pretty scary cause they had 400 young men in them all slammin' into each other.

I remember my first nights on Sunset Blvd (hence the bias toward LA punk). My buddy stole my Gordon Lightfoot tape from the car hid it and gave it back to me in a glass of beer. I got the point and I learned quickly after that.

Husker du...
The Jam...
Undertones...
Stranglers...
Buzzcocks
Early Midnight Oil?

What about Fishbone?
They invented the entire punk-ska sub-genre all by themselves on their debut album in 1985:
"Lyin piece a sack a sh- *beep* trachcan scummiest dirtbag B**CH!!!"

LIGHTHOUSE!
Razz

If you're going to call Elvis Costello punk (and why the hell not, I know I do) then you can't leave out
JOE JACKSON

EXHIBIT A: Got the Time
EXHIBIT B: I'm the Man
ExHIBIT C: Friday

Pretty soon now
Y'know I'm gonna make a comeback
And like the birds and the bees in the trees
It's a sure-fire smash
I'll speak
To the masses throughout the media
And if you got anything to say to me
You can say it with cash
'Cause I got the trash and you got the cash
So baby we should get along fine
So give me all your money 'cause I know you think I'm funny
Can't you hear me laughing
Can't you see me smile

I'm the man
I'm the man that gave you the hula-hoop
I'm the man
I'm the man that gave you the yo-yo

Kung fu
That was one of my good ones
Well what's a few broken bones
When we all know it's good clean fun
Skateboards
I've almost made them respectable
You see I can't always get through to you
So I go for your son
I had a giant rubber shark and it really made a mark
Didja looka looka lookit alla blood
Give me all your money 'cause I know you think I'm funny
Can't you hear me laughing
Can't you see me smile

I'm the man
I'm the man that gave you the hula-hoop
I'm the man
I'm the man that gave you the yo-yo

Right now
I think I'm gonna plan a new trend
Because the line on the graph's getting low
And we can't have that
And you think you're immune
But I can sell you anything
Anything from a thin safety pin
To a pork pie hat
'Cause I got the trash and you got the cash
So baby we should get along fine
So give me all your money 'cause I know you think I'm funny
Can't you hear me laughing
Can't you see me smile

I'm the man
I'm the man that gave you the hula-hoop
I'm the man
I'm the man that gave you the yo-yo

~~~~~
Lazy Gilly was a flower child
All the summer
Calmly running wild
She'd be silly and her friends just smiled
Pass the bottle
Wash the pills down - what went wrong
What went wrong
She don't care no more
She don't need to fight it
She don't care no more
She gets paid on Friday
Cooler weather it's not cool to smile |
Pretty colours
Going out of style
It ain't so bad when you get used to it
Once you clock in
You'll take any shit - all right
Ain't that right
She don't care no more
She don't need to fight it
She don't care no more
She gets paid on Friday
Monday morning
Friday's far away
Pray you'll make it
It's a magic day
Bells will ring and you'll go out to play
Spend your money
Pass the bottle
Friday rules
Friday rules OK
Ain't talking 'bout Monday
Ain't talking 'bout Tuesday
Ain't talking 'bout Wednesday
Ain't talking 'bout Thursday
I 'm talking 'bout . . .
She don't care no more
She don't need to fight it
She don't care no more
She gets paid on Friday
She gets paid on Friday, Friday, Friday . . .
