Ok I'm buying a laptop, I'm not looking for anything crazy but I need something that is fast. I'll be hooking up a 250 GB external HD and adding a 7 port usb hub for all my gadgets such as camera, webcam, HD, and also I have a top of the line extrenal DVD-Burner. So My question is what speed would be a MINIMUM for my processor or any other components? I don't want this thing to be slow. I take my laptop to schhol for writing notes and watching movies and stuff, and well I like to come home and just have to plug my usb hub n and I have a all the things I need. I went to bestbuy and the guy told me a a 2.2 would be the minimum but I don't think he knew what he was talking about because he couldn't really explain to me why I needed atleast a 2.2GHz. Thank you in advance. Very Happy

My laptop is a Centrino 1.4 and it plays DVDs and burns CDs to my external drive just fine. I also transfer music to my MP3 player and take pics from my co-worker's camera with no probelms. I also only have 256 RAM, so as you can see, this is not very fast. But it works just fine.

I have the feeling that the guy told you 2.2 just because that's what he had in stock and he wanted to sell it. But I may be wrong. I would think you'd be find with anything over 1.5, but 2.0 would probably be better. Also, make sure you get 512 RAM minimum, that makes a huge difference!

My laptop is a Celeron M 1.5mhz, and I can even edit video on it with no problem! As long as you up the ram (I have 768) you will be OK. The new Celeron M's have a 1 gig cache, which is pretty darn good. They are basically the same thing as the Centrinos, which have a 2 gig cache and a BARELY USED feature that saves more battery when it sits unused for several minutes. Since most of us never let the laptop sit unused and powered on for a long time (without the cord plugged in), it isn't a feature worth paying extra for.

Many websites are saying it's a much better deal to by a Celeron M laptop and spend the extra dough you save buying another extra battery (and you STILL will come out ahead).

Honestly, if money isn't an issue, I see Lotte Dept. store had a dual-core Centrino LG computer for about 1.8 million. For a home computer, that will be really sweet. Make sure whatever you get is 64 bit, too!

The bummer about buying the Celeron M notebooks is that you will likely find it paired with less-than-stellar video card. They tend to be the bargain notebooks. If you are watching DVDs, make sure it's at least got 900GMA (I think that's the name) on-board graphics. I have the one below that (I forget the name) and it's not great for DVDs during fast action, although it does work.

If you can afford 1.8, or can dig around on www.enuri.com or www.danawa.co.kr , maybe you can find a good duo (dual) deal.

The OP didn't give his location.

And he could have easily asked that before coming here.

Lighten up. It's not like you discovered a new continent.

You will want to do it sooner or later, but RAM prices keep dropping and adding RAM is something you can easily do yourself. I have 512MB and plan to upgrade to 1GB shortly. Price is about $80-90Cdn for a 512MB stick- interception seahawks!!!
touchdown!

Anyway, that laptop is expandable to 2GB which probably means two slots of up to 1BG each, you might be better off buying 1 1GB stick now...

I know that. But again, as I stated before, the OP didn't say he is still living overseas. Are you a sock?

Believe me, I laugh even harder when I see people fall for that one. Especially when they think they know something, and they're wrong. Laughing Laughing Laughing
