Get your wisdom teeth done on friday evening, as you want to be able to go to the doctor if there is a problem. I had one side done at a time. There was no way I could teach afterwards. I just wanted sleep out the pain.

As Son Deuro said...try to schedule the procedure on a Satruday.

Barring unforseen complications, 48 hours is plenty of recovery time.

I had two wisdom teeth pulled in 2003, they are below the gums and small surgery was involved. I had the op on a friday and by sunday I was pretty much ok.

Had my wisdom teeth out about 20 years ago, slept all the next day, was fine in a couple of days. Had oral surgery a couple of years ago, felt great afterward, went out for Vietnamese that night and was just fine... but if I'd been expected to teach, I'm not so sure.

People here are afraid to say No and even more afraid to say Absolutely not. I know it's taboo in the culture but sometimes you have to draw your line in the sand. We're not Korean, for one thing. Also, we have nothing to gain (and nor do they) by wrecking our health. I took 3 sick days immediately after Christmas because I caught the flu and was coughing too hard to do much more than lie in bed; in fact, I bruised my ribs. My hagwon's HR guy tried to push me into coming back before I was ready, and I said "My health is my problem; covering my classes is your problem." Considering this exchange took place when I'd gone into work while ill long enough to leave a detailed lesson plan, handouts, and everything else my subs might possibly need, I had no patience with that crap. His sob story about how it was a cold winter and lots of teachers were sick also cut no ice: umm, hello, I'm one of the sick ones?

We are not Korean. If their culture mandates self-sacrifice for job, family, group, appearances, etc, so be it. We are guests of the culture but we do not belong to it. Many of us are also effectively on our own in a foreign country. We have to take care of ourselves, because there aren't many people here to do it for us.

I've been forced work when I was sick and or injured. Go to work and don't be such a sissy. Its just a flesh wound.

Be there but have lite classes. That means don't actually work and then lie about it. Have Uno or draw picture day. Take advantage of the negative momentum usually displayed by students. Show them you are on their side.

Sorry...I went back to work after having all four of my wisdom teeth pulled (in three sessions.) I did have gauze in my mouth, took it easy, i.e., sat down and gave the kids curricularly-related puzzles to work on. I thing having my wisdom teeth out in Korea is one of the best things I've ever done!

Good luck. I had to work a few hours after having only one extracted and it kept bleeding off and on throughout the evening. I didn't think I was going to make it.

some of my korean co-workers had it done during their lunch breaks and then continue to work.

Hi, I had the tooth out at 10:30 and I'm back in school now...It's 11:30 hehe...thanks for the advice everyone.

Don't feel too bad actually - the procedure was very quick, although it WAS painful! He anaethatised the roof of my mouth rather than my gum and didn't seem to want to be told otherwise. I'm certainly ok to teach though.

I'm not going to do much speaking today...Going to show a film to my 2-4pm class and give lots of activities to the Kids classes in the evening. Word searches, Spot the Difference etc.

Going to draw a big picture of a tooth on the board and tell the kids that I will remove one of theirs each time they annoy me today. They believe one of the other teachers can fly so it could work Smile

I've had teeth extracted and see no reason why you couldn't work... it's not as though you are sick.

Frozenpeas...I feel your pain. Last summer I had to work the whole month sickin July. I had a cold that turned into bronchitis. I went to the hospital 6 times in 1 month. The final time I went to the doctor I had blood work and other tests and was expected to come right back to school to teach my elementary classes. For 3 days I just put my head on the table in all my kindie classes while I had a 101 degree fever. My school does not give sick days.
