Sorry- tried to put this in the FAQ section, but I guess it's not a frequently asked question. Anyway, I need to get some stuff like bok choy and 5 spice powder. Oh, and oyster sauce. Fresh green beans would be nice, too. Anybody know of any Chinese grocery stores in the Seoul area? I've been to the Incheon Chinatown, but I couldn't find anything there... |

I've picked up oyster sauce, fish sauce, choisin sauce and the other day Thai red curry paste from Carrefour at World Cup Stadium.
Bok choy and other vegies , no luck yet. |

| In really, really want some fresh green beans, though. Thanks for the Carrefour tip. There's one near me, but I haven't checked it cuz Grand Mart is a bit closer. I wonder if I wrote to Costco, maybe they'd stock them for a trial run? Wishful thinking, maybe... |

Bok choy is NOT kimchi cabbage. Kimchi cabbage is called Chinese cabbage or Napa cabbage in English. Take it from a Chinese girl!
Peri,
You can get bok choy in the lettuce-y section of the supermarket. Haven't seen green beans here yet though... but you can get overpriced asparagus! |

Are you Chinese, Ekuboko? Me, too!
Anyway, yeah, you can get bok choy from the pick and mix lettuce cabinet at any supermarkets.
As for 5-spice, I haven't seen any.. BUT, there is a huge (ish) store next to Suwon railways station. I've only ever walked passed it (always hurrying to catch my train) but it seems to be pretty well stocked, so you might be able to pick it up there.
I have, however, found 12 spice in a little chinese store here in Daejeon. Of course... that's not going to help you.. lol..
Sorry.
Oh.. edited to say, I have bought fresh green beans before but they are very, very rare. I picked mine up from Hannam Supermarket. A bit hit and miss, I think, but you can try... |
