Ive still got a couple of months before I arrive, so figure Ive got time to do a little self-administered prep course. Any suggestions for good websites or books on learning Korean?

Here's a link to one of many threads on this board on this subject: http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=49433&highlight=elementary+korean
You may also want to do a search and check the FAQ forum, because there is a lot of info on the subject. None of it, of course, is as useful as what I have to say about it, which I will quote right here for you:

I was very happy with Elementary Korean and its sequel Continuing Korean by Ross King. They are pricey, and will not tantalize you with pretty pictures, but they give very thorough yet easy to understand explanations of grammar and the writing system. There are also lots of written exercises to help reinforce the grammar and vocabulary. These may not sound like the most fun books to use, but they are an excellent starting point.
I'd also recommend the fun, and free Sogang University virtual Korean course. You'll have to register before you use it for the first time, but it's always free. It has lots of animated cartoons with dialogues plus games and puzzles to help you learn. The lessons go from beginner to high intermediate level, but I felt that the beginner lessons went a little fast, and the grammar explanations were not always very good. It's still definitely one of the best resources available online. |

If you know how to download a torrent, get The Rosetta Stone-Korean. |

Then there's also the method in my sig, but that's only good if you're a guy and already know it to a certain extent. |
I watched that sig video (twice), and got about 35% (on the second listen) and that is not the Konglish. Those shell girls are hot. Seen pictures of them elsewhere. The video had about all of 5 seconds with them. |

My dad's been with Shell for almost 30 years right now so those are actually the only uniforms I don't like. For me Shell Oil = dad.
I think I'll find another video to put up on that thread. Naver has video now too. |

| Thank you all for the great suggestions. Mithri, I think I could work with that method, but will also supplement with some real...er...boning up. |
