Wow, here all this time I thought the only thing Koreans reviled more than a Korea woman married to a GI was their mixed off spring. And now one has carried the Super Bowl and he's Korea's latest local-boy-made-good hero.

I knew this was coming. I saw a thing on TV about Hines Ward several years ago, so I knew that he was half Korean. More importantly, I knew that members of the Korean press knew he is half Korean. Maybe next season they'll show Steelers games every Sunday (Monday here). Good news if you're a Steelers fan. Why won't Korea just agree to share the Dokdo islands with Japan? They can still be proud, knowing that all that is good about them can be attributed to their Korean-ness.

It's a shame it took the Korean press 8 long years to give him the coverage he deserves. I think he's coming because he wants to change people's attitudes towards mixed Koreans. He most certainly knows his life would have been very different had he grown up in Korea.

It's a step in the right direction, but mixed Koreans will still be subjected to racial discrimination for many years to come.

One of my Korean coworkers said many Koreans don't like black and Korean mixed children, but it is not so bad for Korean and white. Hines Ward does not fit right in in her opinion.

This one Korean adult acquaintance of mine said "Hines Ward looks like a Gorilla."

My response was in the form of a question, I asked...Is that what Korean mothers make?

no response Rolling Eyes

There is still a deep subteranean hate on for blacks flowing through the Korean psyche. It's primative and backwards and ignorant. They will never be the fabled "hub of asia" till they grow up and get some maturity, and and some cosmopolitan sophistication.

Hater,

That blog was a good read.

Maybe Hines should give a speach about Korea's racism. If he wasn't voted MVP or wasn't a sports star, i doubt that he could hail a cab in Seoul.

What if he grew up in Korea? Do you think he could have achieved the same level of success? Would he have been allowed to be on any teams? How would the people have treated him. He was successful because he grew up in a country that, for the most part looked at him for his talents and not his race, something that Korea can't possibly do.

Koreans would like to think that he is successful because he is part Korean, but the truth is, Hines is successful because he grew up in a country far removed from Korean madness.

Absolutely. While I'm dumping on the traditional "pile on" nature of Korea. "Oh look something good, profitable, or world class! Let's all pile on without thinking!" It is a most excellent step in the right direction. In a nation with a low birth rate and no solution other than build robots or breed like monkeys with barbarian foreigners, they're going to have to get used to the idea of mixed race people within their sacred pure blood line.

To shift gears a second, did anyone catch the debate on letting a woman become Empresses in Japan? Some Japanese politicians quipped something about the horrors of sending Aiko to America to study and her marrying a blue-eyed blond and this being the downfall of the pure Japanese imperial blood line...

It's endemic to east Asian cultures.

They're still flogging the school girl thing. No other developed nation on earth has such a high rate of childhood death due to being run down in the street by a car. Korea is like 25% higher than the next developed nation. It's so bad, one of the top fears among children is being hit by a car. There's practically a holocaust going on against Korean children in the street, caused by utterly thoughtless Korean drivers. And yet, there's utter silence on this issue. No national marches to get Koreans to think for one fluking extra second before they run a red light. No daily SBS documentaries on how Koreans are killing their children because they can't think for one fluking extra second about the wisdom of taking a short cut on their motorcycle through a playground...

Well, don't forget that a considerable number of those deaths is due to the fact children are rarely made to buckle up when riding in the family car.

I'll give the *ice *ings credability about racism when they date Black women.
You've been passing over Black women decades.

If Ward Hines was female and a commoner, you breeze right past her. I just have a real hard time taking you people seriously. If you wanna chase Yellow women, do so but never ever say you aren't racist. Fess up man, the truth will set you free.
