My friend had a birthday party at his mother-in-law's nightclub last night and as we sat in the VIP room drinking boilermakers occasionally some girl would come in with one of the waiters. I would ask my friend who it was and he would say "booking." Then, he asked me if I wanted "booking." I thought maybe he was trying to say "hooking," but he wasn't. The girls looked a little peeved and uncomfortable, but I couldn't figure out if it was like the room salons or something different.

My girlfriend explained it to me like this.

Some people at the club are the mediators between a man who wants booking and any random woman the man decides he wants. The mediator's job is to do everything in his power to persuade that woman to come and sit with the man. At that point, it's up to the man and woman to take it from there.

My girlfriend said there've been a few times when she was dancing and a mediator would physically force her to go over and sit by some man. She said grabbing by the arm and dragging is a typical method for making a woman comply. The reason the mediator cares is that he gets a tip from the man.

I hate the fact that they use the word "booking" for that. Why can't they just call it barbarism and be done with it?

Christ almighty. I would be furious if I were there with my girlfriend and some Neanderthal thug came over and drug my girlfriend off to some fat drunk ajosshi. That would account for why the girls looked so upset at our table. They kept asking me if I wanted it and I told them it wasn't my style.

REgarding the girls you saw the other night, they were probably acting, at least a little. My Korean female friends have told me that if you don't act that way, you're seen as "easy".

Just another one of those insights into the culture that makes me wonder if the flight here wasn't really a trip in the "wayway back machine"

there are two kinds of night girls!
1: first timers who heard about night and want to go check it out! these ones are usual happy to move from table to table becuase its their time!

2: regulars! now why would regulars look pissed off? they know the drill in their! they have to look pissed off so they dont come across as easy but actually they want something or they wouldnt be going back!
they just want to dragged to a table for a guys at least under 40!!

free drinks is another reason why many go, they go from table to table and drink wiskey all night, then take off!
what I found funny was when not so attractive woman would go over to a table and they would act like they are pissed off to be there, then it should be the guys who are pissed off to the waiter for sending her over in the first place!!

why they looked pissed off??? they know what happens in a nite!! stop fronting!!

oh come on... do you seriously believe girls would go there if they didn't want to have 'booking'? those clubs are known as booking clubs by everyone, and everyone going there knows what's what. some go for free drinks, some go just for the hell of it, some go because they like meeting guys, but nobody who actually sets foot in the place objects to it. if the girls didn't like it, then they wouldn't go!

you've been here a little long to not know what booking is. but maybe that's a reflection of your high moral character.

first of all, if girl comes with her boyfriend, she won't get booked. usually girls come with other girls and guys come with other guys. the price for the girls is much lower (free?) than the price for guys to come. i don't think the men tip the waiter. its just the waiters responsibility to get that stuff done.

it looks really terrible to see, but like itaewonman said, everybody knows what the deal is when they walk in the door (except the clueless foreigner. haha.) at first i was mystified by why any girl would want to go. but then, you gotta think, koreans jump through a lot of hoops to meet new people. you can hardly find a bar where you can just sit down beside somebody and talk. everybody keeps hanging out with the same 5 people they knew since highschool. so they do stuff like sogaetings (Ұ) and booking and joining internet cafes and crap like that. i dunno. go figure. if you can get over the sleaze factor, it's kinda fun, but it's not worth the price when you can just go to a normal club and talk to whoever you want.

Heres the thing. They have booking at places that arent booking clubs. Had my wife pulled by one of the waiters and I had to step in to get him off her. This was in a normal club, not a booking club.

i guess that's how they roll in jinju. seems like a dirty trick to just surprise people with booking.

but then again, if there are waiters walking around booking people, isn't it by definition a booking club?

So does a foreigner guy's girlfriend get "book attacked" by every Korean man in the bar interested in saving the race?
