|

I'm sending my parent-in-laws to China sometime in April or May. I recently found out that they have never left Korea before, and they are in their early 60's. I would like to send them their for about a week or so. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good package tour or some good travel agents? I expect the price to be around $500 - $800 per person.
Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. |

My husband sent my mother in law with his daughter (my step daughter, in her 20s) last Summer. Height of the season, so we expected to pay more anyway.
Well, the tour he sent them on was the most expensive and whilst they ate well and slept well, they said that they were exhausted because they had to go around so many places to see so many different things.
My suggestion would be to go to your local travel agent and see if they have a package that doesn't involve going around so much - seriously, after you've been on one of those, you will need a holiday just to get over the holiday!
As for places to see, the choices are obvious - Beijing and its neighbouring cities or Shanghai and its neighbouring cities. |

Packages to Beijing from Korea often require you to make several stops a day at factories and such with attached gift shops. This includes (but is not limited to) the silk factory, the vase factory, the tea shop, the jade craftshop, etc. That's why the tours are so cheap. For senior citizens, that would be pretty exhausting. |

For a Korean going to China...other than the main sights in Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, etc. you might look for a tour to Paektusan in Jilin Province. The Chinese name of the mountain is Chang Bai Shan, in case you're dealing with a non-Korean travel agency. I'll look through my travel info to see if I kept any of the flyers from my 2004 trip. During the time I lived in China, we planned our own travel but it was convenient to book plane or train tix through CITS (China International Travel Service). I don't have any specific advice about package tours, but feel free to PM if you have any logistical questions. |

The Story of His Holiness the Panchen Lama
The 11th Panchen Lama, Gedun Choekyi Nyima, son of Kunchok Phuntsok and Dechen Choedon,
was born on April 25, 1989 and was officially proclaimed as the true reincarnate of the 10th Panchen Lama, who
died unexpectedly after delivering an historic anti-Chinese government speech.
The young Panchen Lama is presently the youngest political prisoner in the world and we appeal to the international community, non governmental organizations and every individual to demand the Chinese authorities release and ensure the safety and well-being of H.H. the Panchen Lama, Gedun Choekyi Nyima.
