I believe the printing was justified and RE-PRINTING of the cartoons will be justified if it comes to that again. Are they offensive? Yes, but thats not the point. Muslim groups are trying to ban as many things as they can. Read another thread about this topic where Muslims went after PIGLET on a box of Kleenex and had that banned. Sure, it sounds funny, but its piglet and pork now, freedom of speech and freedom of thought later. To bow down to them, to let them have their way is a sure way of turning a free, democratic west into a closed minded, backward celliphate. Thats why these cartoons are needed. They are just the tip of the iceberg. What needs to be done is for all of us to stand up and to say NO to Muslims who complain and want to ban things they find offensive. The cartoons were a way to show them that we still hold freedom of speech above all things. Even if the speech is offensive. If this causes WW3 then I say bring it on. Id rather die than live in an Islamic world. |

Okay, I was about to post some opinions by someone whom I considered a moderate Muslim, but I realized that might be a mistake. Ya-Ta Boy, is there anyone you can think of who is a Muslim scholar/authority who you would consider moderate? Let's take a look at some of the views of someone who might be moderate, because I think most people on this forum might agree that Khameini and Ahmedijehad do not qualify as moderates. |

The word paranoia comes from the Greek meaning beside (para) mind (nous)
which in the original apparently means "self-referential"
( More like "OUT" of, or beyond the herd's standard mental BOX )
The term came to describe many observable phenomena like suspiciousness and delusional jealousy.
Towards the end of the 19th century Emil Kraepelin was the first one to use the word in a clinical sense to describe a mental illness where a delusional belief holds center stage and is not accompanied by other symptoms.
Though the classification itself has gone through many incarnations, including a change to the term "delusional disorder", many features of his original categorization remain intact.
"A paranoid-schizophrenic is a guy who just found out whats going on.
William S. Burroughs
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you
Kurt Cobain

Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, host of Al Jazeera's Religion and Life show is fairly moderate. |

This Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi?
Here is a transcript I found on the internet. Again, BB, I wonder if it is the same man you mentioned?

The Sheikh is one of the Muslim world's pre-eminent theologians so researching suicide bombings, last month Newsnight went to his home in Qatar to ask why he had formed the view that Islam permitted such attacks in Israel.
SHEIKH YUSEF AL-QARADAWI
(Qatar University)
TRANSLATION:
It's not suicide, it is martyrdom in the name of God, Islamic theologians and jurisprudents have debated this issue. Referring to it as a form of jihad, under the title of jeopardising the life of the mujahideen. It is allowed to jeopardise your soul and cross the path of the enemy and be killed.
MARSHALL:
In the mind of Sheikh Yusuf Al- Qaradawi, that view prevails even though women and children are often the innocent victims.
SHEIKH YUSEF AL-QARADAWI
TRANSLATION:
Israeli women are not like women in our society because Israeli women are militarised. Secondly, I consider this type of martyrdom operation as indication of justice of Allah almighty. Allah is just. Through his infinite wisdom he has given the weak what the strong do not possess and that is the ability to turn their bodies into bombs like the Palestinians do. |
I recommend reading the entire transcript, by the way, because he does qualify that 'the need for suicide bombing [in Iraq] is not there,' although he more than condones suicide attacks in Israel, even though the innocent may be victims. Although, I did find another link where he condemned 9-11 in no uncertain terms. I guess I can admit he isn't an out-and-out extremist, but if this guy is moderate then we have some serious problems. |

The Muslim Canadian Congress is an organization representing liberal Muslims in Canada. They call for the complete separation of religion and state, and were vocal opponents of the plan to allow Sharia into the Ontario civil law.
http://www.muslimcanadiancongress.org/
Their leader, Tarek Fatah, had an exchange with Irshad Manji, another liberal Muslim. Fatah thought that Manji's criticism of conservative Muslims pandered to anti-Muslim sentiment. And Fatah was one of the people Manji thanked in her acknowledgements!
Fatah's critique:

Ya-ta, I don't like posters on Dave's. All of 'em. Ever one. In fact, I hate myself.
I'm starting small. I figure real bigotry takes more gumption and commitment than I can muster just yet, being a former idealist an' all.
(BTW, Shhhhhh!!! Don't tell anyone I posted this! You have NO IDEA what they do to me.... back..... in the.... hagwon... when they..... catch me!!!!) |

Well sorry to break it to you, but most Muslims in the Arab world don't really have issues about suicide bombers attacking Israel.
And if that is the only issue where you find him extremist, i'd say that's a start. |

except that's Canada. If you can find a similar group in an Islamic country, I'm all ears.

Let me introduce you to Fiveeagles. You two seem to have an affinity for over-the-top nonsense.
While you're at it, why don't you tell us how many Islamic countries you've been to. Nevermind, I already know the answer to that one: zero. |

I agree Ya-ta. The only way to make things right again is to punish the cartoonists and the publications that printed them. The Danish government should just do that so we can all live in peace. |
