Okay, I can understand how some people would rather watch American movies with Korean dubbing. Apparently the Korean actor union likes it too. Gives their members voice work. But have you seen the ghetto dubbing they do? They have Korean actors speak OVER the audible English voices. I mean I guess if you have no clue what they are saying in English Brad Pitt's voice is just so much incidental noise... but man. Ghetto.

the voices always seem to be the same few people too. You get this gruff, deep voiced old ajosshi doing adam sandler.. it's ridiculous

In France (and elsewhere for all I know), they have certain voice actors who repeatedly dub for the same actors over the course of their careers. It's pretty funny for them when they hear the actor's real voice.

We stood in line for a half hour at a mid-city movie theatre in Shanghai waiting to get tickets to see Star Wars 3 this summer. We finally got to the front of the kind-of line when, rather predictably, some Chinese guy and his wife just walked in front of us to get the tickets. My girlfriend told him in Chinese we were there first and please get in line. He refused, telling her that he was in a bigger hurry... Then when I called him a bunch of swear words and started looking violent toward him, we had this whole big fight with me cussing him out in English, his English speaking wife cussing me out back, and he and my gf going back and forth in Chinese! Kind of funny and typical scene for Shanghai.

Anyway, after all that, we finally shamed the guy into going to the back of the line and got our tickets. The movie started out with great special effects of spaceships in planetary orbit shooting laser blasts at each other. Then, the voices of the pilots were speaking to each other in Mandarin.... I was like, hmmmm I bet George Lucas invented a language for those pilots to be speaking just as he did for Jabba the Hut in an earlier movie... but then, Yoda was speaking Chinese and so on... So we got up and walked out of the movie theatre and bought a newly-pirated DVD of the movie for 5 Yuan (700 won)...

When they make the effort the TV stations transmit the original English sound along with the Korean dubbing. You have to toggle a button on your remote to switch off the Korean dubbing and listen to English only.

The thing is, they usually just send it out Korean only. They don't see a need to give a service in English. That's what wonderful Arirang is for!!!!

It's nice when the Korean-English switch works though.
