I am a little frustrated right now. I just came back from Emart where I was told on Friday that they would have a shipment of Compaq computers on Wednesday. They still don't have them in stock and I inquired about an Averatec model and they told me they would have to order it. My question is "Where the he11 on this pinnensula can I walk in and walk out with a computer? Some posters with knowledge please tell me. Is it in Seoul? Busan? Daegu? I want to know where I can buy a computer and take it with me the same day. I don't lay down $1000.00 cash on something I can't carry in America let alone here.

Sure, go there and look at the parts, but there's a reason Yongsan is infamous for ripping off foreigners.

But get a Korean to help and order everything online. You can use the money you save to get someone to assemble it for you, if need be.

Considering the OP can't find the tech forum, how do you expect them to find a computer.... in Korea, no less?!

In Dokdo, there is a sale on slightly used Fujitsus.

Thats good advice - if you can, get a korean friend to go with you to Yongsan when you know what it is you are looking for with specs and such in a comp...look around casually, and when you see what you want have your korean friend go in and seal the deal...

My buddy just told me that now is the best time to buy a PC since many places are having back-to-school sales. Best thing is to shop around as the price differences can be substantial.

Building a computer is easy...

get the specific components you want and a case from Yongsan and slap it together yourself Smile
Or get the guys to do it there for you.

I can personally attest to the attempts to rip off foreigners. However, I can also attest to having found a very nice couple who run a booth inside Space 9. They mostly sell odds and ends, so when I came to them for some very particular parts to make an entire desktop, they were willing to give me a good rate.

I've bought an entire computer's worth of name-brand parts from them (and then some), and they've always given me stuff at or below Danawa's best listed price. They've also been really helpful when one or two parts didn't perform as advertised.

Sounds like you're maybe looking at getting a laptop, but if you're interested at all in building a desktop, drop me a line and I can steer you to their booth.

You can get memory cards bigger than that.

I had a Korean friend come with me to look (he thought I was buying) a notebook. LG. That kind of scared/scares me. I got them down to 1.5 million for 1024 MG, 80 G, DVD/CD combo burner deal, but I'm unsure about all that. I think I can get the same equip. for less. Somehow. So, I'm holdin' out.

It's a shame though. You can get computers for so cheap in the States, but the service after will be non-existant, really.
