you guys are gonna get the ire of the whole korea...
don't you realize that you're critizing the "national" younger sister of the country?
oh well... i don't really find her pretty... maybe "cute" when she was younger... |

I can second the bit about the top Korean stars being more expensive than some of the Hollywood stars. From an inside source ( ) at Beanpole, Gwenyth was less expensive. Interestingly, my friend said that Daniel Henney was not the first pick to costar. Originally, it was going to be Jude Law, who backed out, then Ewan Macgregor. However, Ewan and Gwyneth apparently don't get along and didn't want to appear "together", and would only pose in seperate ads. In desperation they grabbed Henney, quite cheaply as he was not yet a star in Korea( the ads were filmed 6 months in advance - and the drama that made him a star here was not yet released). They chose Gwenyth because they are trying to pitch Beanpole to a more upscale market.
gosh, it's fun to gossip |
so daniel henney, even though they got him for cheap (is there any other way to get a korean star? i heard they get paid peanuts) was still paid more than gwenyth paltrow? |

I meant that a big Korean star ( think Jun Ji Hyun or Hyori) would get paid more than Gwenyth or someone similar from Hollywood. Daniel Henny was not very well known here at the time the ad was filmed ( months before it aired). |

what it is , is that big stars in korea are demanding too MUCH money!
they think they deserve it! so they charge 250K - 1million for a CF and the advertising people say! NOWAY! for that money or less we can get hollywood stars! so what we are going to see is more hollywood stars coming to korea and doing CF's.. becuase big stars like choi min sik and song gang ho are demanding more and more money and want higher salaries and are actually the ones hurting the local film industry, even the legendary star AHN SUNG KI who is president of the Korean film association said, those stars demanding huge salaries becuase of their new found fame are hurting the industry! stars wanting 2-3 million dollars a movie is ridiculous and makes it impossible for the local industry to grow
also the same stars shouldnt put their face to every commodity and endorse anything it just gives an impression that you only care for money and not actually acting!
Koreans are a new wealth nation , NEW MONEY so to speak! and they will do what ever it takes to get their hands on more and more of it! even it means destroying the industry!
you saw those stars out their for the screen quoter demos well funny thing is they are hurting themselves! reason their is a huge demand for hollywood films is they are better! local film budgets are high to compete and with stars asking half the budget its impossible for investors to see anything on their investment! so it doesnt work! and hollywood films are here! they want to compete they need to step back 5 years and keep the salaries where they were and keep growing the market as AHN SONG KI said! this new found greed from stars like CHOI, SONG etc. is gonig to just make it harder for the industry to compete!
so you can understand why advertising agencies are using hollywood stars to endorse products becuase for the same price or cheaper wouldnt you rather have brad pitt wearing your jeans than chang don gun! ?
an international STAR!! vs a local star! more cooler to have brad becuase CHANG is already endorsing 50.000 products in korea where brad is not endorsing any!
so the local stars here might just bite themselves in the butt if they keep thinking they are over the top! and you might see alot of their contracts been given to hollywood stars!
yes koreans endorse everything! who ever is paying the most! they will stand their and smile! they are only seeing the MONEY!
you never hear about actors in this country who studied the method or love the craft! they love the money! and thats it!! |

I don't think korean celebrities are paid all that much so any work they cna do they jump at it. |
Though I did read last year a Korean advertising executive saying that Drew Barrymore's and Gwynneth Paltrow's fees for the Baskin Robbin and Bean Pole campaigns were less than those of the top Korean female celebrities. |
well what ever the fee it was a waste of money! tv commercials don't work! having gwyn or drew endorse something is not going to increase sales!. CF's for the most part don't work! |
Now are you saying these two specific actresses aren't going to increase sales or having celebs in general endorse things isn't going to increase sales? If your supposition is the latter, then you should tell that to Nike which can over charge for shoes simply because Michael Jordon endorses them.
Bean Pole wants to create the image they're an international premium brand on par with Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren. How do they do that? Get Ms. Paltrow to appear in ads. |

Pricing their shiite clothes the same as Polo et al helps, too.

how do they do that? they start to make some clothes which are cool!
ever seen a tommy hilfiger commerical? or magazine add?
I dont remember seeing celebrities being their major marketing campaign
ralph lauren too.. armani these brands are famous for their clothes first but because marky mark was wearing boxers on a billboard downtown I dont think he was the reason for their success! runway models and just sleek cool clothes.. a product which is cool first!!
air jordans were cool shoes! thats why they sold!
nike designed shoes with that in mind!
its not like jordan is going to endorse speed sneakers! which look like crap and feel like S H I T is going to generate sales..
end of the day the consumer is going to try it on! the celebrity gets the product attention! but then again so will a commercial with a blonde girl with big knockers!!
you dont need to spend 1million dollars on a famous star to sell tshirts!
you could spend 10.000 dollars on some models with huge breasts and have them in a water fight for 30seconds and that will be viewed more than sly stallone saying this a great tshirt!!
sure in many cases celebrities who endorse a product will increase sales.
but not all the time! and these days! I think we are buying more and more less into advertisers BS!! now we actually want something that works or looks good.. and I think thats why big names like jordan put their names on products which are cool.. and they take a percentage of sales! stars who endorse crapola are only out for money! they couldnt careless if the item sells or not!
do you think coca cola needs christina aguliera to increase sales?
you think pepsi needs brittany spears to increase sales?
its just for show! |

Okay, so Nike is going to pay Michael Jordan $50 million a year to endorse running shoes that will, in your fantasy, sell just as well without his mug? |
