I applied for cable TV today, with the only cable company in the area. They said that they will not sign contracts with foreigners, because they have been burned before. I must pay an entire year in advance to get their service, or have a Korean co-signer.
It's worse than getting a phone. |

Did you show them your Alquida secret decoder ring with flashy ID card? It helps if you give them the Bin Laden secret hand shake.
--I bet my post was just recorded by the Americans for further inspections since I used many key words like: Bin Laden, secret, ID and the other 21 words . Tomorrow I will be flying to Russia in torture class(not economy or business) to have a chat about my posting. |

Well I'm a young, blond, blue eyed female partial to men....and they still made me do it. If I were you, though, I'd count your blessings. Cable tv here (in the booney's) is crap, unless your a fan of those dudes who rip around with their megaphones hawking stuff, you can get that 24/7 on korean cable tv Just download whatever you want. It's more convenient and there's no commercials. |

I assume you have cable internet? Sometimes there's a dual signal through your cable. Try attaching your internet cable to your TV and see if there's any TV signal. If there is then buy a cable splitter and some extra coax cable and you're set. I'm with Thru Net in Seoul and they don't bother to disconnect the TV stream if you don't pay for it. It's worth a try.
On a side note I just moved into a new place and there is a cable signal coming into the house that I haven't ordered or paid for... but I'll take it!
Alternatively, just get a Korean to sign up on your behalf. What about your boss? |

I disagree. Doing it for yourself is much better. |

Maybe if you speak the language and have an alien registration ID. But as far as I know only actual Koreans can get the unlimited minutes deals on cell phones. |

I also do not agree with this.

Except for Hanaro, my ISP, all have English speakers manning the phones to help foreigners. |

Why bother with cable here when you can get a sling box and hook it up to a friends cable system back home and then watch all your favorite local programming from back home?
