Forget it, I just looked at an on-line (then it must be true!) Webster dictionary and they give leafs as an alternative plural.

i cannot believe people are so sad as to pick apart the spelling of a brief message one writes on a message board. who really cares? If someone txt you do you rip them to pieces?!
Well here's an idea...how about we end this bull.shit as my question has been answered...or...feel free to keep the sledging coming as i didn't play cricket this season and miss the sledging. |

RAndom posts on the message board sure, but if a person is seriously asking for help on a job hunt, and they don't have enough common sense to show themselves in the best possible light while they're making the request then a recomendation would probably backfire. |

Perhaps but why would anyone hook him up without knowing if he can be a decent teacher. Hooking him up Grotto means using your contacts and by extension your reputation to recommend someone for a job. So while his grammar may not matter to you. It does to many employers.
That is just basic common sense no?
Just because you view jobs here as getting paid to be a clown it does not mean that we all do Grotto.

To the OP, the place where I work is awesome. The director is without a doubt the best person I've ever worked for, the lunch is free every day, the apartment has two bedrooms, it's a 6-minute walk to work, the teachers have almost 100% discretion as to curriculum and decisions, the two Korean teachers are friendly and good at English... etc.
I'm leaving in March, however, and we currently don't have another foreign teacher lined up. If you want more details, just PM me.
Also, this is not a cell phone, and these aren't text messages on a cell phone. This is a place where people who teach English spelling and grammar hang out. No one "nit-picked" your post; they simply made general observations. I'm with Homer and Peppermint that you need to demonstrate your ability to use English properly. No one is requesting flawlessness, but saying "no" instead of "know" and "there" instead of "their" is terribly frightening. Just my opinion.

Damn it, that's bawwww-stuhd where I'm from! Hey they deepfry crickets as a delicacy in Kinshasa and sell them in paper cones just like French Fries. Pinocchio would love it there. No one on your back.
Hey OP, I had a great first year in Korea, was really well-taken care of but even though I did a lot of research beforehand I'd still say it was kind of dumb luck. My second experience wound up being a rip-off at a camp. But I learned only to go through word-of-mouth. I think a lot of people on this board would vouch for that method too. That, I think, is truly the safest method although it is admittedly tough to access if you have no personal contacts. But you should make sure of that fact before you give up and start cold-calling (or cold-clicking as it were). You never know who you might discover from your past who is out here.
That being said, the board is still very helpful as Korea is very much a tried-and-tested market and there is a lot of collective experience here you can lean on by searching on various issues, so at least you are better mentally prepared going in. Landing a good gig can still be very much worth the effort. |

No, Ajuma's rule is right... Ever since the end of the Joseon dynasty in the late 1800's, we have been going through a phase of gender un-liberation here in Korea known as "ajuma's rule". The introduction of thousands of illiterate English teachers to Korea is likely to end that rule as many of the ajumas' thrones will become ajumas thrown... |
