I am new to Seoul, living in Hagye (number 7 line) and I am looking for some info on hiking. I can see the mountains from my apartment and was wondering if anyone could suggest any trails or courses around here, or would be interested in going.
Also, what is the deal with dogs around here? I haven't seen any. I know they eat them here, but that can't be the reason there are none around. My wife is coming over in a month with our dog and just wanted to get the scoop. Are dogs not popular pets here?
Any information anyone out there could pass my way would be greatly appreciated.
Peace, |

Dogs are generally considered a form of handbag, not actual pets.
If you can see the mountains, just walk toward them. There are always places to explore. |

Thanks for that Racetraitor. Not exactly the info I was looking for. I have already tried exploring in the mountains, but was wondering if there was something more substantial around.
Not good news on the dog front either. I won't be leaving Fido unattended for very long.

No, I mean they get carried around like living purses. It's pretty rare to see a dog on an actual leash, or even allowed to go on daily walks.
If you want a more substantial place to walk, I suggest Namsan, Yeouinaru, and Hangang Park. All good places to bring a dog. I once had a great time exploring the mountaintop behind Hongik University too.
I have to admit I still haven't found your subway station on my map, and I live along line 7 as well. |

Suraksan, Dobongsan, Bukhansan, and Gwanaksan are all pretty easily accessible by public transportation and have great hiking trails.
There's also a Seoul-based cross-cultural hiking club that goes hiking in a different place every Saturday, rain or shine. You might try them: http://www.hikingkorea.com/aboutus.html |

From Hagye, you can easily get to Suraksan on line 7, it's only 4 stops away. It's a very popular place to hike. Or else there is Ҿϻ (Bulamsan) which is at Ÿ (Eunhaengsageori) only a 2000 won cab ride from where you are. It's smaller than Suraksan but you get a great view of Seoul on a nice day and you can get up and down in less than 2 hours if you don't go the whole way up. |
