That's easy to answer.

Just ask any Korean and they'll tell you that it was because they ate KIMCHI. Kimchi cures everything, even death Laughing

Well fundis would say it was because they really lived 800 years because they walked with God etc.

Most traditional Biblical scholars would say the ages are not to be taken literally. They were the product of "age inflation". Look our heroes are greater than your heroes. Ours lived a long, long time. See how great they were?

Bible says Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge and skipped the tree of life. So they became sinning humans with great potential. Angels and such ate from the tree of life and thus became IMMORTAL, though bound in servitude to God. Maybe these great heros from the bible had been given a little more fruit from the tree of life than the tree of knowledge? So Moses and Noah and those guys lived a long time but were really stupid, only able to accomplish anything important with the direct guidance of God...
Yeah, I heard that in an anime one time and I think it is the "correct" answer.

Think about what you could do with 400-500 years. As long as you could stay in relatively good shape, you could accomplish quite a lot with your life, if that's what you were interested in, accomplishing different things. You could have many different careers, travel more, make more money...etc.

Their DNA code was different back then.

They'd been cross-breeding with the NEPHILIM.

When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." (Genesis 6:1-4)

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days-and also afterward-when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them.

They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

Yeah; I think Cat Fancier Magazine has the OP brainwashed. Noah took more than just cats aboard his big-ass ark.

He took other animals, also -- not to mention the Raiders ("of the Lost," not "of the Oakland") and Sun Ra.

Age is about how young one feels, anyway. I bet all those young bucks on the ark made Noah feel like a spring chicken. Squared.

Whatever floats your boat, I suppose.

(Sometimes, I try too hard. Please forgive me.)

There's a theory regarding extended life durations from early biblical times, and it goes a little something like this.

In those days, there was an additional layer around the earth that kept most oxygen from escaping. This created an abundance of oxygen on the earth. Since medical evidence shows that oxygen tanks can expedite certain recovery processes, it's logical to assume that a significant increase in the levels of oxygen on Earth in general would extend people's lives.

Unfortunately, God smote the oxygen barrier in a bout of hysterical, uncontrollable anger, which action was the progenitor of two occasions:

1. The dinosaurs died. The bigger ones had bigger lungs and therefore needed more oxygen. The smaller ones survived.

2. Human life span decreased.

So there you have it.

David Cross had a funny commentary on the early biblical lifespans. Something about being so old that your body fails and you just lie on the ground hoping an apple falls off a tree and rolls near your face. It was funnier the way he said it.
