| I am curious who has a Masters or Doctorate degree from an on campus university (not online or distance) that is accredited and certified. I think almost none. |

I'm still paying for it every month, doesn't get more real than that!  I wasn't sure if you meant in Education, ESL or English though.

Weird. I tried to make it as simple as possible. I meant exactly as it says. I was curious about how many people have a M.A or Doctorate. I don't mean an online one or something ordered from Thailand. Just a normal American Graduate school type of M.A. From an actual certified registered school. |

I am not sure how to answer because I do have a Masters for a certified accredited school but it was a distance degree. Is this not a real Masters? I paid 'real' tuition fees, wrote 'real' papers and did 'real' research....and I did it all with 2 young children in the house and teaching full time at a school. And I have a 'real' piece of paper (still in the tube) and got a 'real' job...(real in that it exists not that it is really difficult).

Online MAs seem to be the wave of the future. I am holding back my opinion for the time being though. I'll wait to see if the wave has already crested and is dying or not. |

Are you attacking online learning, or are you merely curious how many people spent an extra year on campus?
If you are attacking online learning, what about people with undergrad degrees done partially by distance?
What about people that took night classes?
What about people that took classes over the summer?
What about people that were taught by TA's?
What about people that got advanced standing for taking advanced courses during high school?
Only people that lived on campus at Harvard, never worked part-time while they studied, went to every lecture and got straight A's are allowed to say that they have degrees? |

| I think it's more one's motivation for getting the degree. I did my MA for the simple reason that I loved reading history. Almost everyone I've ever met who's even considering an on-line degree is doing it so they can add 'MA' after their name on their CV. What's so funny is that an MA in something that has nothing to do with teaching English here seems preferable to a BEd over here. |
