it is the worst sport on earth it is slow, boring and after the 10 goal margin it really is embarrassing. The best female hockey player is compared to a 3rd line centre in Jr B hockey. I played B and really its only average hockey. I am glad they are considering to remove it. The only thing that sucks is that Canada will have one less medal per olympics.

Well the American lost, so I guess the sport can stay ... for now.

I still say it is unbelievably boring and their skills are atrocious.

I think it should stay but Canada vs. anyone-but-the-US is really like watching 15-year-old boys vs. 13-year-old boys, isn't it?

In women's ice hockey, Finland and now Sweden have demonstrated that they are competitive agains the Canada and the U.S.

That's more than men's basketball can say as an Olympic sport.

All the guys on here that say the women are not as talented as a third line Jr.B centre or are equivalent to 12 year old boys are freaking idiots. Any one of the women on the national team for Canada would skate circles around any of you guys making these idiotic comments.

Anyone making a comment like that is a complete idiot.

I used to practice with Cambell and some other players that I don't think play anymore. I stand by my assertion that they are not very good.

Ever watch hockey buddy?

So by your standards, what sports are women just as good as men in?

Zimbabwe won gold at Moscow in 1980 at women's hockey, I remember it well as everyone was happy about it.I love hockey, great game.

The reason many promising countries can no longer compete at world class level is simply economics. Sporting prowess follows a country's economic success..and the poor have become poorer and the rich have gotten richer. For example Argentinas football has plummetted with their national woes..Thus you are left with the top 5 economies of the world getting all the medals at olympics, and "stealing"-buying the best players from poorer countries as well. I remember at school in Zimbabwe talent scouts from the US visiting our sports days and offering scholarships to our most promising athletes.

What you end up with is the predictable small pool of top nations in the finals, while most countries having great talent simply cannot develop it to the best standard, or "exports" it to the west.

Oops! nobody, nor even the article mentioned the word "ice". I didn't even realise women play that game, thought it was just guys..!haha..no never seen a womans ic hockey game, probably wouldn't want to either. 100kg women bashing eachother round the head is hardly an exhibition of feminine grace.

But Field hockey..on grass..now thats a fairly likeable game.

Eh, hockey is hockey. It's played on ice. No need to say "ice." This is particulary obvious since we are talking about the Winter Olympics. If you want to talk about field hockey then you need to say "field" or people won't know what you're talking about. I've never seen a game of field hockey, but I'm sure it's an interesting sport.

Well, at least that's how it is where I'm from.

Hockey is hockey. If you mean ice hockey, say so. Hockey preceded ice hockey. Soccer and rugby preceded American football etc. "Field hockey" is another N.American term, unheard of in the rest of the world. We simply say "Hockey"- and yes, it is a winter sport!

Lets remember that North Americans ripped off/ adapted sports that existed long before in Europe and elsewhere. You might think that Canada/ US is the centre of the universe, but most of the planet thinks differently, and plays sports with their original names, in their original forms...and couldn't care less about ice hockey, the "world series", or the superbowl.

I once met an American who didn't know what rugby was. How insane is that? Laughing

Pay no heed to Rapier. He likes to high-jack threads, start a completely new conversation that nobody is interested in, and put down people that don't fit into his worldview. (go Catholics go! Wink )

Seems to me quite a lot of the world is concerned with the World Series and Super Bowl.

Go spew your crap elsewhere.

Sorry to disappoint the nay-sayers, but Canada's women's team is smoking Sweden for the gold medal right now at 4-0 going into the 3rd period.

Go Canada!!!!

P.S. The women's hockey team just won the Olympic gold medal..........again Very Happy

...and the men's team crumbled.

So bite me.
