I just finished reading a war on a thread about a PC Room and the anti-foreigner sentiment that was there.
The wife and I have been there many times. The ONLY reason we go is because of CHIAA and his bookstore. He has a great bookstore and frankly he is a really nice guy. I like to give my business to people like that (his wife is nice too). This is the ONLY reason. IMO, Itaewon is nothing but an infested, drunken, smoke-filled area with nothing but bad news and guys grabbing at you saying, "cheap suits". Sometimes I feel like I am in the movie Rush Hour! That place is for the birds. What attracts you to it? Soooooooooo many of you flock there and yet have nothing but bad things to say about it. This really boggles my mind. |

This is representative of a lot of foreigners attitudes towrds Korea in genreal, not only Itaewon. Masochists, I reckon. |

if you live in itaewon, it's a lot better than if you only go there to go out. before i lived in the area, i thought itaewon was a weird place, now i love it. though to be honest, i don't actually go out that often anymore. i eat yummy food and go out elsewhere. |

the arabian food in itaewon is super cheap and I've yet to see anywhere that comes close to the quality anywhere else in seoul.
Red door, for the odd creature comfort.
Tailors for clothes. |

First you go up to What The Book and get a few books. Then stodge your way down to Burger King get a soda and play a game called guess the Sex Tourist. You play it by sitting in the window of Burger King, and well figure out the rest. Now if you want some good chow then wobble your way over to one of the three places. Pita Time, Petras, or the Taco Stand on the other side of the hill.
If you want to actually party in Itaewon well that is your own choice, but their are some fairly decent clubs. I am inclined to favor Pollys for their soju kettles, and after midnight there is a nice country bar just down the street from Pollys to recover from the blaring rap music. |

The Indian food is excellent.
It's the only place in Korea where I don't hear much snickering from Koreans when they see foreigners. A welcome change from what I am used to experiencing on a daily basis.
Most of the shop owners will treat you with a lot of respect because foreigners are their bread and butter. In other parts of Korea, you are either ignored or given service that boarders on cold. They won't even smile at you in a lot of cases. The Itaewon shops are the friendliest in Korea for foreigners. I buy all my clothes there because they also have big sizes. |

welcome to KOREA! itaewon is no worse than any other town in Korea
only difference is we are foreigners doing it!
yes Itaewon can draw out the worse foreigners , you walk around and think JESUS is this whats in the west? is this why I have no plans to return home! people like this!! hahahhhaa
personally Itaewon is rubbish and we all know it! but hey we speak English and sometimes we just want to get away from the koreans and have a change everynow and then! I think many foreigners here go through spurts on itaewon 6 months hit it hard then not return for another 6! I am like that! more like 1 year actually I havent been a regular in itaewon since 2002! but now I am sick of all places! so I go out less and enjoy where ever I go becuase its all kinda new to me!
but yeah ITaewon is garbage but its all we have so hey! |

Itaewon is great.
The bar scene has been getting better and better.
The restaurants are some of the best in the country (for their price range).
There are not Korean punk 20 somethings to contend with/giving you the stink eye like there are in Hongdae and other night spots.
There are no insane crowds like other places.
There really are not too many problems with the soldiers (I am classifying them as soldiers, but I really mean the 19-20 year drunken idiots that have left Podunk, Alabama for the first time) anymore due to the curfew. |

Yeah, yeah, this cuisine, that cuisine. We get the point already.
If Chiaa weren't there and if all the restaurants served Korean, Japanese or Chinese food, who would still go there and why? |
