| He's absolutely right. A good friend of mine who taught with me last year but has transferred to another high school took me out to celebrate my new job last week. I asked her point blank about this "bonus" and she said yes it's true. I said for what purpose is it given? She said it's because she's a civil servant and that is why. She said the amount is all on scale as far as how many years experience you have, etc. so it's not exactly (in all cases) a full months' bonus every other month, but STILL is damn good. Teachers do have it good here, yet they still whine about their salaries. |

My wife's father and brother are both teachers, so there's your link. The teachers at your school don't care to tell you about the bonus because they're afraid you will resent the hell out of them if they do. I forced it out of my co-teacher when she was trying to pull the old "Oh, but during our vacations blah blah blah" nonsense.
"Oh, but during vacation we have to go to teachers' training."
"Well, I wouldn't mind going the extra mile if I were getting the same bonus as you guys."
"Oh! Bonus?"
"Yeah, the one where every other month you get a paycheck bonus."
"Oh. (insert Korean unnngggggg)"
BUSTED. |
But what it is called in Korean? Their English is not that great, so it might be a case of not understanding. |

| My friend's English is near fluent and she specifically said it's a bonus that civil servants get. She made it clear though that their bonuses are not as big as companies like Samsung, etc. I said "oh you poor dear" to which she laughed off. So believe me they have it good folks............ |

A snipped of a conversation I just had with my wife, inspired by this thread.
Me: Is it true that elementary school teachers get a bonus to their salary?
Her: Of course!
Me: How much is it?
Her: Twice their salary.
Me: How often do they get it?
Her: Every two or three months.
Me: Does everyone know about this?
Her: Yes, of course. Elementary school teacher is a very good job. |

Ask? Hell, go the distance and demand that all public school teachers (waygooks) get the same deal! I'm with you! Fight! |
