|
|
I have been ofered a new position in March. The school says they will reimburse me within a few days. I don't trust them. I have been teaching here 4 years so I am very wary of any hagwon director's words. My current school paid my way over here upfront. I have neve done this reimbursement thing and I think it's stupid. Also the new school wants to meet me Saturday to give them my visa documents. Im not dumb enough to hand over my original degree before i go see my family for 3 weeks. |

I got reimbursed from my (public) school after I'd left the country, never to return to that school again.
OTOH, they also knew that I still had work left to do for them to be sent by e-mail. |

Not me, it was one of the stipulations of my signing, they pay up front. Its not that I didn't have the $$ but..........you never know. They said okay no problem. |

I do. I bought my own ticket here and my public school paid me back. I liked the control. I chose what airline and what time and I had the ticket. I also think it is a good way to investigate trust issues early on. If there are problems at the begining then I would be concerned. |

I would never, ever trust a hogwan for something like that. What difference does it make if they pay for it now or in a few days ... unless, of course, they're not actually planning to refund it in a few days. |

Got reimbursed twice with zero hassle.
Then again it was after re-signing with the school and coming back from a vacation....
On the whole, I would push for pre-paid airfare unless you have it on good authority (i.e. other teachers at the school) that the school reimburses airfare. |

Yeah, I don't think I'd trust a hagwon.
I had no problems getting reimbursed by my public school within a few days of my arrival.
Just make sure the airfare section is clear in your contract. |

Same here. I wouldn't trust a hagwon though. |

I wouldn't trust a hagown if it was my first time here but Princess knows the ropes. |

I've always said I don't have the money and then they've bought the ticket. It's a minor inconvenience to be assigned your flight time and date, but an acceptable one compared to chasing a director for your reimbursement. To me, a question of the lesser of two evils. |

I think you can usually change flight details, like departure time, as long as alternatives are available. |

Never had a problem getting reimbursed once I'm on the ground and working. It's the return fare home I've been cheated out of.
Somone already mentioned it, and it's the best advice : simply tell them you can't afford the price of a ticket out of the country, since you've been sending everything extra back to pay off debts. They will cough up,
By law, your Korean employer is responsible to see that you are able to leave and not be a burden on the Korean legal or economic system.
(The time I got cheated, I let myself be. The guy was such an asshole it was worth $600 bucks to be shut of him. Not just me who thought so - he kept his desk right smack in the teacher's room so he could watch us between classes, and I later learned the times I saw him nodding off at it was because the Korean teachers were putting some kind of drugs into the water bottle kept in the fridge. Imagine what a jerk a boss would have to be for his employees to resort to drugging him ... This is a true story.) |
