I'm enrolled come March and I'm curious if anyone has studied korean in their evening program before. I'm eager to learn Korean and can read and write, but stringing together sentences is a posing a problem. Can anyone shed any light on the program. Or if anyone is going in March maybe we could meet up prior. |

Do you know the website address for SNU evening course? I can only find info about the full time course.
I've been studying at EWHA for a while - it's been good - learnt heaps.... but am ready for a change, since all the EWHA classes use the same format and all the teachers have the same style. |

The website isn't very informative. I got most of my information by calling the school directly. The courses run from March 6th and finish near the end of May. The hours are Mon and Thursday from 6:30 -9:30 and the cost is $500,000 won. The deadline for enrollment was last Friday, but I suspect it's not strongly enforced if the classes aren't full.
Here is the website: http://www.snu.ac.kr:6060/sc_sne_d/sc_sne_d_g/
As I said it isn't very informative yet the phone number is at the bottom and the receptionists speak English. |

I've done two levels. It's probably one of the better korean courses around. Well structured classes. Speaking of which, I should go and register. You can usually sneak in after the date depending on how many people there are. |

I took it through two levels, starting about a year ago. I was pretty happy with it. I went into it with some previous knowledge of Korean, like you. You'll be really bored the first week. After that it will move at a reasonable pace. I had a slightly inflated confidence level into weeks 3 and 4, as I was learning a lot, but the other students were still tripping up on the alphabet. However... they caught up fast and overtook me, and I found that my study method of cramming 30 minutes before class didn't cut it through the duration of the course.
A lot of the people (including myself) were graduate students and professors at SNU from various countries. It makes for an interesting mix of people you get to meet.
Overall, I'd say it's worthwhile. You'll definately learn a thing or two and might even have some fun while you're at it. |

Yes, I don't think I had a single english teacher in my class at all, which made for a good change. Students from china and india, profs from germany, an intern from france, makes for a interesting class. |

stvwrd,
Are you a professor at SNU?
If so, what major or topic do you teach? |

Whoops, sorry if that was misleading. I am not a professor there. I was a graduate student on an exchange program working on my Master's in Public Administration (which I have now completed).
I'll be coming to Korea this weekend for the third time, but my first time working. |
