I bought some whey protein last year on the base and it was on sale because it we supposed to expire this month. But, it doesn't smell or taste funny now. When it expires what will happen, will it taste funny but still do the trick or will the aminos break down and become useless? This is the first time I've used this stuff so I don't know that much about it.

its milk or egg based most likely...use your imagination, mate. Using old dairy is never smart. Just buy some new at Namdaemun market, its not that expensive. Hell, I'm going on monday.

You can use virtually all bodybuilding supplements up to six months past the expiry date (in a lot of cases even up to a year). They put the dates a bit early to get you to use up the product sooner. I wouldn't hesitate to use that protein.

BTW, if you buy protein in any of the markets here in Korea, check the expiry date before you hand over the cash. A Korean bodybuilder told me that the sellers here like to scratch off expiry dates off of old products. Then, you have no idea how old the product is. Be careful.

Where do you buy it, what kind is it and how much is it?

Are there any other places that are chepa for protein?

What about getting creatine here?

My heath club seems very expensive (about $140....double what I would normally pay)

Thanks for your help.

Prices as of 9:30 this morning:

Prolab- pure whey 5lb- 34,000
Xenadrine EFX- 43000
Prolab Creatine monohydrate- 22.000 (for 2 and a free t-shirt)
1 Nitro-tech bar- 3500
Ga-ka Juseyo'd for 95,000 total

This is at the sunrae (?) import labyrinth. I wish I could give directions, but I always get lost on the way. Know that its on an edge, and there is a big yellow happy face on the door. Inside you'll find MANY stands with all the stuff that is "impossible" to get in korea. There are a few bodybuilding stands, pick one that has the brand you like (As you see, I like prolab) and bargain with them. Hours are WEEKDAYS ONLY 9-6

Use your initiative. Go to babelfish.altavista.com to translate protein to Korean, enter the word in the search field. Get the sellers phone number or email address and contact them. Still faster than going to the black market to buy what is most likely knockoffs.

Stuff at the market is 100% real and bought from the Army base for the most part. Its fresh and cheap. Besides, the gmarket is a littl eless than standard Korean proce, i.e 2.7 k for 97,000. The market is 2.7k for 34.000. With no shipping time, no chance for miscommunication in emails or telephone, and the abillity to check expiry dates. Bottom line is thus, everyone is free to do as they wish. There are 3 options, Namdaemun market, gmarket, or www.bodybuilding.com. It all depends on the individual person and there prefs.

Wow! That's an unreal price! Same as what you'd pay retail back home. I wonder how much they pay for that stuff on the base?

You must have good negotiating skills. I asked about it and was told 50,000 won. I didn't buy it. I was just pricing it. Probably could have gotten him down to 40,000 won if I had negotiated. Even that would be a good price considering all the hands it's changing.

I like Prolab too. Good tasting stuff. Good price too.

No real negotiation skills, just looked uninterested, showed up as his first customer, and bought a few other things. Its kinda a trick when bargaining is to be done: be the first customer of the day. Most vendors will go out of their way to make that first customer a sale. That's anywhere in the world.

Costco also carries protein. They've got a 6 lb. tub of whey for 36,000 won. I used it, it's decent enough. It claims to be 91% whey. (Of course, you will need to either buy a membership or con someone into getting you in.)

that import market is just to the left of Gate 1, Namdaemun market.

The building itself is open at the weekends too, I'm surprised the bodybuilding stall closes, would've thought Saturday was a big day?
