Quote:
A Port Moody man who went to Taiwan as an English teacher, is in jail there facing a possible death sentence after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges.

Mathieu James Forand was arrested last August by the Taiwanese Coast Guard after they found cocaine, marijuana and ecstasy pills in hollowed-out English textbooks.

I doubt he's going to get death but I wouldn't feel sorry for him if he did. Check out the quote by Footprints guy Ben Glickman.

Forand was actually a kindergarten teacher!

Vote to hang him here:

Although I'm against capital punishment, I wouldn't waste too much of the tax payers money to get his ass out of prison. He knew the consequences of his actions. The moment you step out of the plane in Taipei, you see a big sign before 'entering' Taiwan that greets travelers with the following words in English, "Possession of narcotics is punishable by death". There's even a washroom situated next to the gate, giving any would-be smuggler a last chance to destroy their contraband.

Not a lot of sympathy for the individuals really. If they're guilty, and they are smuggling drugs into countries where it is known they chop your head off for anything drug related. Anyone who smuggles drugs into Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan or many of the other countries with the death penalty for smuggling deserves a Darwin award.

Personally I'm in favour of much stricter laws on other crimes such as pedophile scumbags rather than drug smugglers.

If you go to most asian countries they have very stiff penalties for drug smugglers, but western and asian perverts can have their dirty way with a little child and get a slap on the wrist. I think we all agree-even the most anti-drug people- which is the worst crime.

I'd much rather scumbag paedophile arseholes got shot in the head than an a fairly harmless-idiotic hippy drug smuggler.

I'm going to assume his motive for taking such unprecedented risks with his freedom/life was money.

I guess he's learning the true value of a lot of things these days.
