|
|
Hey all,
Some of my Korean friends were asking me what my favourite meal of all time was, and I proceeded to describe a home-cooked roast of either lamb/beef with baked potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potato, peas, gravy, etc and I was met with blank stares from all..
Is there anywhere in Seoul that I could take them for a roast meal? I found a place in Gangnam called the roast house, but it was only chicken or ribs. I'm after lamb or beef.
Anyone? |

| To get lamb, you can go to any Indian restaurant in Itaewon. |

| Suji's in Itaewon, I had roast beed and yorkshire pudding there a while ago. Sundays only as far as I know- and everyone says it's going downhill- worth a look though. |

If you want to pay a pretty penny you can go to Suji's or one of the hotels. But if you want to take matters into your own hands you might want to consider investing in a pressure cooker or slow cooker. Slow cookers are difficult to find unless you can wrangle your way onto the army base. You can pick up a decent pressure cooker at any E-Mart (between 50,000-80,000 won). It's indestructible so you'll get a lot of home cooked meals from it. You can make everything from roast to chocolate pudding to rice in this marvelous pot! I have tons of recipes, so pm me if you need help. The really groovy thing about a pressure cooker is that you can crank out a roast in about 1.25 hours as opposed to the three it would take in a conventional oven.
As far as the meat is concerned, there are many halal food stores in itaewon that sell lamb and you can get beef at any local grocery store or butcher. Usually there is a picture of a cow at the butchers so just point to the type of meat you want and then tell them the weight. Usually they look at you like you're a little crazy for wanting a piece of meat that big. |
