In that case I'm counting the "f__k off" stare Katherine Hepburn once gave me. She must have been in her 80s but I swear she would have come up and popped me one in the kisser if I had gawked at her one second more.

Right then.

I've had 'f__k off stares from Alex 'hurricane' Higgens (snooker legend) and the recently deceased Queen Mother.

Chris Cairns. I must have been 12 years old with my little signature bat. He was fielding down on the third leg boundary at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. He must have been busy tending to his chops, or maybe he'd signed enough autographs that day, who knows what fuelled that wrath. He may have broken my heart with those two small words, but I still forgive him. Razz

Here he is in bowling stride sporting retro 70's beige:

If you're not into your cricket you probably won't know who he is, but a mate of mine back in England asked the West Indies fast bowler Curtly Ambrose for his autograph many moons ago. This was back when he was playing County for Northants. He said "sure", took the pen and paper, scribbled something down and went on his way. When my mate looked down he'd written nothing but 'F*ck off!' I thought it was funny. My mate didn't.

That's pretty funny. But the thing is, you couldn't convince anyone that he actually wrote that.

I know stumptown. Most people I've told that story to don't believe me, and I even feel inclined to question it myself, as I was an admirer of Ambrose as a player. I do know my mate though, and he wouldn't have made that up.

I was in a bar in downtown San Diego when in walked Frank Viola, David Cone, and Barry Lyons (back-up catcher) as the New York Mets baseball team were in town to play the Padres. Viola had just recently joined the Mets in a trade from Minnesota. Well I said hello to them, told Frank I thought he was a great acquisition for the Mets, and started chatting with David Cone--a really nice guy...meanwhile Frank was pretending to reach over and knock a girls strap from her top down her arm as if to expose her sizable pillows and I saw him doing it. I chuckled at him and asked what he thought he was doing...He basically told me to F- off, that he was a married man.

Terry Gilliam politely suggested I was an idiot. Would that count?

And I did piss off Howard Zinn by mistake once.

Stompin' Tom once asked me, "How the *beep*'re you doing?" He was pretty wasted. Does that count?

My girlfriend once gave a Korean celebrity the old *beep*-off, and now that chick's popular. She sat on the $5 sunglasses I'd given my girlfriend, and was going to offer 100 000 won to pay for them. My girlfriend told her, "Keep the money. You'll need it to bribe a director." I could find out the name if anyone wants, but it wasn't anybody too too big.

On a Sudbury Saturday night. "How the fark are ya?"

Bud the spud from the bright red mud
Rollin' down the highway smilin'
Well, the spuds are big
In the back of bud's rig
They're from Prince Edward Island

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooh!

a little off topic for this off topic

Stompin' Tom's old school house is just outside Tignish, North of the Potato Museum in O'Leary PEI. We decided to take a field trip there one weekend (I went to university in PEI) and then spent 4 hours at the museum and touched all the stuff in the school. The school was outside and there weren't any cameras, security nor real potatoes in sight. Good times good times.

Is it next to a big flying saucer or a giant lobster trap?
