| The title: mod is not a noun in its own right. In this case, the apostrophe stands for "erator". |

Yeah, right. I guarantee as soon as you saw the title you rolled up your sleeves in anticipation of a good apostrophe use battle and thought "damn, it's gonna be a hot night in Shintanjin!"
Out with the truth! |
You caught me with my pants down, Mith. Fortunately, I wasn't looking at the online AP style guide at the time, so there wasn't much to see. |

Now I definitely know you're jerking us around. You had me going until you indicated with this post. Well done!

| I'm so out of touch with the board that I don't even remember which threads I said what in half the time, so I'll comment about something and never get to see the response. I could understand if you wrote a 6 page disssertation on the meaning of life why you'd be upset about having the post/thread deleted, but if it's really that precious to you, save everything on a word file so you can go back and admire your astounding prose. Me, I'll continue writing drivel for 9 out of 10 posts, and if this thread gets deleted, the thought of pouring a shot of soju on the ground for my departed homies will only briefly cross my mind. |
Couldn't have said it better myself.

I ask for examples, and you give me this. That sounds like a contraction that you just explained in my book.
Just what is the status of the word "mod"? I've taken it for internet slang ever since I first laid eyes on a forum. I can't think of any other words at the moment that operate in the same fashion as abbreviations. |

Have it your way Z.
For my part, where there are letters missing from a word, whether a contraction or abbreviation, I shall continue to use an apostrophe.
You will no boubt be hugely comforted to learn that I will not - nor have I ever - used the grocer's apostrophe. |

I'm with Wangja on this one, and in fact I shall shortly call him on the 'phone to tell him so. If not, then I'll catch a 'bus to his office and speak to him directly.
Right after I play a tune on my piano'. |

Only these two are in the same vein as the mod debate. They both look weird to me, gov'nuh. |

I personally would be ashamed to be a moderator of this board
unless I was getting good bucks from Dickweed Dave. Do these
idiots actually think they are doing a public service??? They are
helping Davey Boy make money. That is all.
