I need to get a parallel port cable and power cable for a scanner, down here in Busan. Anyone know of a computer shop? Address info or directions on how to get there would be nice.

Sometimes you can find cables at the AONE stationery stores. |

If its just a standard parralel cable then you can get one from any computer shop or e-mart etc.
When you say powercable... Do you mean just the cable or the actual powersupply for it. ie. the ac adapter that converts AC to DC current? |

A couple of places you may want to try:
1. Gah-yah Computer ( ǻ) - It's near Seo-myeon. Line 2. Basically on the other side of the street from Dong-eui University.
2. Myuhng-nyoon Dong Electronics ( ڷ) - Near Dong-nae/PNU. Line 1.
Those are probably your two best bets, but there are other places. Let me know if you want to know of any other places. |

Yeah, I need the AC/DC converter (12V DC). Maybe some of the stores listed in this thread will have a converter in addition to a parallel cable. I will do some shopping to find out. And yes Giant, I did find a scanner; it just didn't come with any cables! |

You can get generic ac adapters anywhere, but for a scanner you should get a more 'precise' voltage adapter.
At Yongsan getting a 12v adapter will not be a problem, you will just need to find one that has the right connector though. Or just cut it off and conenct the right type of connector the scanner needs.
Are you sure its a parralel cable type scanner? |

The back end of the scanner has three outlets: one is a small circular hole for the power, the other two are 25-pin parallel ports, one male and one female. |

Okay, so I got the parallel port cable and power cable/transformer and connected the scanner to my laptop. I installed the driver from HP's website. But my computer does not recognize the scanner. The only thing that caught my attention in the ReadMe section of the driver is this:
Quote: |
"The pass through parallel port on the scanner is intended to be used only with printers. If you have another parallel device that is not a
printer connected to your parallel port, you should add another
parallel port to your computer before installing the scanner. Connect
either your other parallel device or the scanner to the second
parallel port. Call your computer manufacturer for details on how to
add an additional parallel port to your computer." |
Is my parallel cable not connected correctly? Both ends of my cable are male ends. The one 25-pin port on my laptop is a female end and has a printer icon next to it. On the scanner, the female outlet has a printer icon next to it, and the male outlet has a monitor/computer icon next to it. I think I can use 25-pin outlets for anything, so what's the deal with the printer icons? Do I need to use the male outlet on my scanner? Anyone have any ideas? |

What you can do is change the printer port mode in the BIOS. I have found I had better luck with EPP mode than ECP, or even try SPP. |
