I know I could be asking for trouble bringing this up as no doubt some Canadian posters will go on about "how arrogant and ignorant" Americans are, and Americans will go on about how "annoying, whiney, and stupid" Canadians are. But here goes anyway.
The other day a student came up to me and said "Teacher, you from Canada. Which is better, Canada or America?" I told him that I prefer Canada, but a lot of people would probably tell him America is better. He asked why, and I couldn't really come up with an answer.
Seriously, what does America have that Canada doesn't?
Nicer weather? Have you ever been to New York? (or a dozen other States)
Better entertainment industry? Perhaps, but we have access to all the same stuff.
Better military? Granted. But what the heck do we need a strong army for? I know some American here will say "we protect you". But, from what? We're in no danger. You are the ones with targets on your backs.
Everything else is pretty much even. I could easily make a list of 30 tings that make Canada/AMerica better than Korea (and maybe 5 of why Korea is better) But when it comes to seriously comparing America to Canada, I'm at a loss.
(let's take it for granted that Canadians in Korea are pitiful and not include them/us in the argument)

Is there somewhere in Canada where it can be ner 80 degrees in January, so that you could go surfing in the morning and skiing in the afternoon or evening? Is there somewhere in Canada where you could do the above or go to any of two handfuls of major amusement parks/wild animal parks? Or go hiking to the top of three different peaks over 10k feet? Or go rock climbing in one of the most popular free climbing sites in the world? Or take a cable car up the steepest escarpment in North America, go sledding or cross county skiing, head back down for a tramp through the desert, then head off to world-class theater for the evening? Or cross the border into a foreign county that actually IS a foreign country?
All within a two hour drive?
Well, you get the point.
Get back to me on that, eh? |

Given the use of "and" in the thread title, I'd have to agree with Canuck.

Seriously, don't bite.
I'm trying my hardest to point out there's no place in Canada that reaches 80 degrees, not even in the hottest part of summer. |

Sounds quite nice if you're an outdoorsy kinda person.
Canada does have some pretty sweet arese animal parks. Some of the best in North America.
We've got the world class theatre going.
Great cross country skiing. Great beaches. I'm not gonna go and assume the States doesn't have as beautiful a landscape as Canada, but Canada's nature does kick butt. (perhaps not comparitively, don't know)
As for the foreign country ... we have this little place called Quebec. It's like entering another country without the passport hassle. (and you can even drink the water) |

You too. Seriously. Shut it.
What I like about Canada is it's not an overly competitive society. Yet we still believe in natural selection. |

Well, when it comes to lifestyle, Canada and American are on par. But I think a lot of Americans are proud of America because not just because of our lifestyle, but because of our accomplishments.
Yeah, Canadians have access to hollywood movies. but Americans MAKE hollywood movies. does it really matter to you who made it? not really, but when it comes time to say which is the better country, you can say "well, we made the Godfather."
Of course, alongside our accomplishments there is the dark side, the things we've done that are shameful. but, i dunno, in the end, i think we've done a lot of cool stuff nobody else has done. |

Thank you for actually answering my question...
You made Godfather ... Well, uh ... a Canadian made Titanic!!
One of my thoughts on what makes U.S. better, is perhaps a more interesting, flamboyant history. |
