For the past couple of weeks I've been in America, and I'm about to return to Korea. I bought a lot of things to take back with me, including clothes and some electronic things. To avoid customs fees, should I unwrap most of my new stuff? I'd really rather not because the packaging can protect my stuff in the suitcase. Plus I have lots of other stuff to do in the waning hours before my trip.

I know nobody here can give an official answer, but I'd like to know what you've experienced or what you've heard. I have heard that stuff should be unwrapped before being sent in a package, but what about if it's in my suitcase?

you can leave it wrapped and in your suitcase I'd say the odds you get checked by Korean customs are slim and none unless one of the dogs smells plants or drugs.

Just look decent and hand them the customs form with a smile and keep walking they won't bother you

You are allowed to bring back a certain amount of new stuff for yourself, and, as was said, they are highly unlikely to look anyway.

If you are having stuff shipped to you, that is a different story. I have had packages checked coming to me. Over a certain amount of value on new goods, they will charge you duty. The biggest problem would be the hassle.

Have the tags and packaging removed, and have listed on the customs form "used clothing for personal use". If I order things, I have them shipped to my sister in the States, and she repackages them and ships them to me- I also save on shipping charges this way. The postal clerks always give me a wink and a nod, and tell me I am doing it right when I do it this way when I ship to myself when I am in the States.
