I am currently teaching English in Taiwan. I came here of my own accord, so have never used a recruiter before. I'm thinking of heading to Korea for summer camps this year, and would really like to get things set up before I arrive. Has anyone had a good experience with a recruiter that they would recommend?

Yeah, don't use one.

I went through Koreana Teachers Club and was generally satisfied with them. They found me just the job I wanted before the other recruiters even replied, and the schools I contacted directly never replied.

I used www.networkorea.com and found the position I was looking for. Mijin did her best to make sure I got settled and was enjoying the position.

This if my first time teaching in South Korea. I found the job posting on the job board from ATC and after going through a couple of Canadian recruiters I decided to go with these guys. At the time they were hiring for Public School positions. I definitely don't regret at all. They have fought for me, they have translated for me over the phone and via email, hooked up for a bite to eat and even had a party. I took a position in a rural area, Pocheon, despite being encouraged to work in Seoul ... well let's just say I should have listened to them. Anyways, they are definitely professional and I would recommend them in a heart beat to anyone looking for a job.

I smell something fishy here about ATC to be honest. Even though I haven't heard anything bad about them directly - they sure do get some strange recommendations.

I pointed out there site before with around 30 'teacher' recommendations ranging from things like ... 'my boss pays me even more than I asked' to 'I'm so happy at my school that I'm glad to do overtime'.

Why are you signing your name and telling us where you're from taekat ? We're not writing testamonials here - if you think ATC are good then by all means say it, but your posts are more like advertising blurbs than honest opinions IMO.

I have a good working experience with www.wehireesl.com LOL

Sorry about the testimonial .... not my intent but I was bored. Didn't mean for it to be advert either ... just figured that I would put in a good word and it's just my opinion anyways .. maybe i'm the only one who likes them of all the people they've hired. Either way it's just my opinion!

Cheers

I came to Korea and used park english after trying to get a job on my own. it was too hard trying to answer the phone all the time and keep track of jobs and pays and stuff. Finally i worked with park english, who actually saved my life at the end of the day when i got really sick. my recruiter was totally by my side (and i mean personally) the whole time that i was both sick AND looking for another job. ultimately it's up to you, if you can keep track of jobs and pays and vacation days and so forth, then try on your own going through all the ads, but i told park english what i wanted and they worked it out and found it. they're at www.parkenglish.com good luck.

Not all recruiters are bad.
I highly recommend Footprints in Canada.
You can check them out at footprints.com
good luck!

We had a fabulous experience with Korea Agency (www.koreaagency.co.kr). After 2 months of nothing from another recruiter, Andy found us 3 options in less than a week. The one we accepted has been wonderful. Andy fulfilled every promise he made and then some. If we decide to return to Korea after we sell our house next Fall, we'll go through him again.

I would recommend using WorknPlay. I had some serious doubts about coming to Korea to work as an English teacher and Ann at WorknPlay reassured me everything would work out fine. She was right...everything is great. I am working in a public middle school in Pundang and I have no major complaints. Within one month of contacting WorknPlay, I was on a plane from Canada to Korea. She made sure all the paper work was in order and arranged everything at my school for me. She is an amazing person. www.worknplay.co.kr

I'd second that. I've gone through worknplay and talked lots to Ann and a few others from there. They're fantastic to work with.
