Quite frankly, I am torn between the two. Basically I am looking for the real S-E Asia experience. Pretty much looking into architecture, traditional food, S-E Asian culture at its rawest, and without Western contamination.
I hear that both places are cultural heritages of 'the way it was, and the way it should be'.
So for all you pundits out there, which do you recommend? All I'm looking for is the real Asia. I'm especially interested as to which place has the most unfettered Buddhist statues on every street corner. I would like to experience that bliss. |

is this a serious post? they are both prostitute cities.. 100% 'contaminated' with western influence.. all kinds of western foods, western men, and the like.. essentially western men go there to eat western food and pay to sleep with eastern women.
never heard of anyone going to see see 'unfettered' buddhist statues in angeles city in particular.. (philippines isn't even buddhist)..
i'll take it this post goes along with some other thread as posted half in jest towards that.. |

And what about the jade trade and porcelain market in those cities, sir? Do they compare to that of Skid Row, Vancouver, or Hillbrow, Johannesburg? |

Actually Pattaya has a lot to offer besides hookers. There's the beach; there are water sports and island tours; there's a nice a/c cinema for the hot afternoon; there's lots of great Thai food and a few nice Indian and Japanese places; there are a few bars with show-boxing and snake shows that are pretty impressive; there are lots of shopping venues. I spent a few days there with a friend and a few days by myself and enjoyed it, though six days was about enough. Not all the westerners are fat, old sex-pats (though most are). I spent an evening hanging out with a Frenchman who spoke excellent English and another with a kraut who didn't and had lots of fun.
The hookers there are something else, though. A number of times a pack of them literally tried to drag me into a bar. At night if you're walking home drunk they see you as especially vulnerable. I've never seen a city where you can pick up a hooker at the shopping mall. |

Dear --
I dont know what it is you are looking for in particular but I would reccomend northern Laos its not expensive and if you go far enough you will have the oppurtunity to see SE Asia as it was maybe 10 - 15 yrs ago.
Quite pleasant.
People are kind and happy if you learn the difference between Laotian and Thai.
Have been told about Nepal is nice maybe not southern enough but maybe more blissful if you have the money and time.
good luck |

HAHAHHAAHAH you are trolling right!! but I will bite anyway!
DUDE!!! what are you talking about!!!
you sure will find the the white pearl in either of those places!
but its probably not the pearl you are looking for! or is it?
pattaya VS Angeles city.. just means! which place is better for SEX!!
those two are the WORLDS BIGGEST ADULT DISNEYLANDS!!
you want buddhas, statues, food, traditional culture! STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THOSE PLACES!!
but if you want to go down into a world of degrogatory sex and lose yourself in some fetish way! then you have found your paradise!
just comes down to your preference in woman between those two places! |

Yeah, but they always get away with creating new sock puppets, while the mod squad is busy killing interesting threads for inexplicable, and unexplained, reasons. |

Patayya is the cultural mecca of south east asia. for instance, the beaches there are of a pristine, white sand only found in southern thailand. located in nearly every beer/go-go bar, you will find a buddhist-type statue located in the corner which will contain authentic thai incense, candles, buddhist statues, fruit offerings and pictures of deceased loved-ones. in some bars, it is possible to place your sexual member through a rather unclean hole and into a bartender's mouth which is another cultural curiosity of the southern region. patayya has more buddhist statues per square mile than any other thai county and by the end of your stay you will likely resemble a statue in many respects, and you will be lucky if you haven't contracted some painful and long-term disease. |

I believe "Pattaya' is from the Greek, or is it Latin, for 'sanctuary' ... There you will find a tranquil and harmonious refuge. Nature will treat you well. I recommend a stay in the wilderness there. Or if you are so inclined, an enlightening chat with a 'sanyasei'
As for "Angeles' I have not had the fortune, but have heard that only heaven itself has finer and greener pastures to offer a world-weary soul such as yourself. |
