I have my own classroom called "English zone" where various special classes are held regularly. I've been asked to decorate it so am looking for some good ideas. Its a basic space with a large blackboard, stacks of windows, and a few large pin boards. There's also 5 large round tables.
I will have a small budget at my disposal.
Please help with some creative ideas and don't be too jealous.
Thanks in advance.

Go to some of the culture/tourism centers for britian, kiwiland etc. Explain what you are doing. They'll probably have some stuff for you like posters. etc.

Do they have a computer hooked up to a large-screen monitor? I don't know what they're budget is, but that would be an essential for me.

Otherwise, one thing I'd want is a large world map. Post some photos from home. You could post photos of your family as a family tree to teach uncle, cousin, etc. Get some teen magazines and cut out photos of celebs or even ads with lots of English on them. I'd post photos of celebs with things like their nationality, languages spoken, height and weight, etc., to help teach descriptions.

If you want to have fun replace the Korean flag with a photo of the queen.

If you don't wanna spend money, put some of your own photos or photos of your family and friends. If your students are older then English Newspapers, posters, students' essays etc... Otherwise picture cards with English, doodles from students with their English names etc...

I've had my own classroom for a while now.

Take a look at what kinds of themes you'll be dealing with in upcoming chapters, and build a plan from that. In the past, I had a seasonal board, with calendar pages for each month and things like flowers, snowmen etc, to illustrate seasons. It became a prop for lessons on seasons, holidays, telling the date etc( I teach elementary)

I have my own classroom at my Middle School and I'm just about to start decorating it. I'm going to have a poster with the class rules on it and other posters with different English slogans and such on them. I plan to cut out pictures of Korean celebrities and glue English speech bubbles to them. Also, like Peppermint said, I will add pictures and speech bubbles that relate directly to the text and maybe come straight out of the text. As different English holidays and events come up I will add and change decoration accordingly. A large English calendar is an essential I think.

Where are these foreign culture centers??

I agree with the above poster, themes are the way to go. Incorporate your bulletin board theme into your monthly lessons.

January: Winter Activities, Clothing, etc.
February: Valentine's Day
March: Vacation, Travel, Transportation
April: Spring, Climate, Geography, Plants, Nature etc.
May: Jobs, Cities, Shopping, etc.
June: School, Food, Home, Family etc.
July: Summer Activities, Clothing, etc.
August: Animals, Zoos, Farms, etc.
September: Fall
October: Halloween
November: Thanksgiving
December: Christmas

Try to do something to celebrate World Cup 2006 with some guided learning project concerning the countries involved.

Use part of your classtime each month to introduce vocabulary, roleplays, song lyrics, etc. based on the monthly theme.
