Am I the only one who gets really annoyed by the stickers/magnets/flyers put on apt doors? Seriously, every day I come home and find one or two there. They'v even developed a new technique where they slide it into the groove of the door so as when you open it... surprise!

Today I was home during the afternoon and heard some shuffling around my door. I opened the door and the guy almost got it in the face (shucks). Anyway, I walked up to him, said some things in English he didn't understand (and some things in Korean he understood less) grabbed his papers and walked him out of the building.

I kind of explained to the Kyongbi-Ajoshis what was up (and them actually being fairly cool in my building they seemed to understand).

I'm wondering when companies will realize that this overboard advertising actually costs them cutomers.

I don't mind it so much, right now, as I'm on a delivery/order-in binge these days. For the first time ever since being in Korea, I'm actually interested to see what new menus I get and see if someone in my area can finally deliver a big plate of for less than 20,000.

Deep breath buddy.

Take those ever important 5 seconds to pick the crap up and put it in the bin. Or, if you're really lazy like me, just do a back kick so that they go into the hall and someone else picks em up

I collect those magnets. They're awesome.

Those fridge magnets make the most unusual (and hard to get) souvenirs.

I'm happy to see the magnets as it's just like finding trinkets/cards in your cereal(BTW: why are cereal companies so mean these days? China is afterall the toymaker for the world).

I also got sick of having to clean off my door when I got home every night, so I made a sign that said, "If you post advertisements on my door, I will boycott your company," and posted that on the door. That sign was useless. I continued to get ads every day, in utter defiance of my threat! Shocked

I just ignore them. Every so often they all disappear. It's annoying, but ultimately not a battle I feel I'm going to win. For that matter I always used to get a LOT more flyers in my mail in Canada.

I sometimes consider visiting the establishments that feel obligated to decorate my door and mailbox with their trash and leave my own "advertisement"......a bag of fresh dog poop.

I think the OP, who is almost always a font of common sense and reasonableness, had a crappy day.

At least they're not knocking on ours doors to give them to us. Sometimes I just fling the magnets down the stairs or I just leave 'em there. Whatever.

What's more annoying is that every so often someone's ringing your doorbell. Usually a religious group. Especially if you start teaching at 2 in the afternoon, like me, and they come calling in the late morning. I can understand doing this from house to house since you might choose not to hear the doorbell or whatever, but it's more of an invasion of privacy in an apartment building.

I love the magnets they leave! They get recycled in my classroom a lot. I play a game where the students have to piece together phrases or sentences from words.

Write the words on colored paper, cut and laminate them, then glue bits of the magnets on the back.

True. I would much rather get a few magnets here and there, than volumes of junk mail I received daily in the United States.

hehe, some interesting replies.

Did I have a bad day? Maybe. I was watching some fight videos and maybe it got me going a bit.

Honestly though, having paid some ridiculous amount of money for my apartment I find I let tings about it bother me more. I guess it is the marketing principle of "investment determines level of dissatisfaction". (A unit I was teaching yesterday actually).

Anyway, is it a battle I would win... most probably not. If I was able to, I should have moved into a secure building. I'll know for next time I suppose. Smile
