| Paula is useless. Why is she even on there? She will find a positive thing to say even when someone is horrible. I know exactly what she will say before she opens her mouth. Simon is great. he tells it like it is, he doesnt hold back and he always speaks the truth. If someone sucks, he will tell them, which in the long run is what many of those people need to hear. There was a contestant who sold her wedding and engagement ring to come to idol. She sucked. It would have been far better for her to hear how much she sucked before she sold her stuff and left her family to pursue her "dream". Atleast Simon squashed any dreams she had left and knocked some sense into her. |

very true.. amazing how many people during the auditions seriously need to hear that.
Occassionally though.. Simon gets it all wrong on someone.. he just doesn't like the song or the image or something strange and inappropriately goes off on someone.
But the mass majority of the time.. he calls it correctly.
Taylor Hicks is a case in point where he didn't..

| Simon is great. He's only mean from the perspective of a generation of kids spoonfed the feel-good, lovey-dovey you-can-be-anything-you-want-if-you-want-it-bad-enough mentality. To those of us who realize that not all people are equally talented, regardless of what Mommy thought, his honesty is refreshing. |

Compared to the awful Randy, he's great entertainment and at least has some intelligence. I'm sure Randy's a nice guy but unfortunately he talks in cliches. I've nothing against Paula. |

I think Paula does the most disservice to these people. She keeps alive hopes that should be squashed with maximum harshness..for the good of he hapless people who suck but may not realize it and may end up wasting time and money to pursue a dream that has no shot of ever coming true. I hate Paula. |

It's a weird career he has carved for himself though. Being unpleasantly honest to the untalented on reality TV.
He's a one-trick-pony. Can he do anything else? And is it that hard to do? Once you've got over the idea of hurting people's feelings on TV. |

Well he is a producer. He put together some successful groups, the latest being some pop-opera style group that is selling rather well. |

True, he was wrong about Taylor, but he admitted it. And he is right about Elliot Yamin-- that kid can bring it, no doubt!
I appreciate Simon's honesty, and he is spot-on about 90% of the time, but there are times when I think he's a bit gratuitously cruel.
