I don't know about other gyms, but at mine 100,000 three months, equipment is not bad, missing some things that you would expect back home and has some pretty outdated equipment (those belt massages). and the weights are to light esp the dumbells. but every gym is different, just like back at home you have to shop around and pick a balance between quality and cost. (they are good for the showers, as all the showers i have seen in appartments suck big time) |

Mine was 150,000 Won for a three month membership. Gyms are on every corner it seems. They're pretty similar to gyms in North America, except you have to get used to kilograms and to the annoying Korean dance music. Oh yeah, and the ajosshis who think it's their national duty to lift more than you. |

If you are in Seoul the best bet is California fitness. 3 locations, Myeondong next to the Savoy Hotel, Apukjeong near the Hard Rock Cafe and Kangnam across from the Dublin Pub. All 3 have top notch facillities, western sized weight machines and all sorts of classes. I've been to all 3 and the Apu one is the best, most space, escaltors between floors and the machines are well organized. Myeondong is small and scattered plus the guys locker room is up on the 5th floor. Kangnam is the newest and their equipment is the best but you have to exit the club to go to the guys locker room and go by bar and the equipment is all in the basement.
You can usually get a deal on memberships. I got 2 years for 1.3mill but I know people who have gotten lifetime deals for about the same amount of money. Those you have to pay arond 100k/year after the 3rd year. You can use your membership at the Calif fitness clubs in Hong Kong and Bangkok and 24 Fitness in the US. |

It varies.
The local Gym I use is just fine. It has a nice public bath facility and the machines I use (elliptical) and decent free weights.
The guy who runs it is a cool dude and we get along quite well.
It costs me 10 000 won per month (he gives me a discount however) for the gym and access to the baths (he has a roof top sauna and hot bath and in the winter that just rocks).
Just gotta scout out the gyms until you find one that suits you. |

sorry but I have a knee problem that makes going up and down stairs very painful so I'm grateful for every break I can get |

The one I go to is cheap, but all the equipment is falling apart. Everytime my boyfriend wants to ride the exercise bike, they tell him it is only for women because he is too "heavy" and will crash the machine. Half of the machines don't work properly, the other half are really old. But if you go to one that is expensive maybe it will be better. |

Hmmm..ever think of switching gyms?
Unless you like that sort of falling apart theme. |

Yeah! 10,000 won per month???? are you joking? Most here are at least 50,000/month for even a cheap place.... Homer, do you REALLY work out? You didnt just make that whole thing up about elypticals to impress the ladies, did you?
Or your definition of 'nice' is a little different than mine. |

I quit the gym I belonged to for exactly that reason . . . Well, that and the fact that they only seemed to clean the shower room the day before they opened the gym. By the time I quit it was growing green stuff around the edges - or perhaps it was just an accumulation of the stuff people were hawking on the floor. |

The gyms here are cheap and have everything you need. I get mie\ne for W60,000 for 3 months. I guess it depends what you need it for....with a squat rack, bench, and chin and dips "machine" you have everything you need, but for the Adjuma there are tread mills were they can walk (backwards). They show up everyday and never ever break a sweat, whereas I run interval until I almost puke (/rant) |
