|
|
Our boss (hallowed be her name) has decided to get all organized and by the book and get her deductions right. She's also incredibly cheap. A rich person who runs the school as a sort of hobby. Her deductions from pay are sketchy and this is also a hobby of hers. I called her this payday on some sketchy deduction which was mucho drama but I reclaimed 80,000 won which would have gone her way to give her poodle a trim or whatever a rich person might do with such a paltry sum (which to me means quite a lot; so I'll fight to keep it).
We don't get proper receipts at payday. No name of the school on the receipt. Just my first name on it. And, comically, the night I was contesting the unfair, sneaky deduction, I had to chase them around for the receipt. It's like they don't want even that slim evidence in my hands.
Real cat and mouse game.
Re; pension the hagwon owner's monthly deduction for the pension program is 29,000 won. I know this isn't right from what I've read on this board. Proper pension, from what I've heard on here, is 180,000 a month, isn't it? So this 29,000 bogus monthly pension deduction is just another in the owner's arsenal of petty theft maneuvers.
She drives a BMW two-seater convertible, white, by the way. And went to Thailand for Summer vacation and is, generally, filthy, stinking rich god bless her. |

Well, the 180,000 seems too high to me.
If you make 1.8 mil, then that would be 10%. I seem to think I've seen people saying pension should only be 4.5% from you, 4.5% from your employer?
Anyone? It would be helpful to know the right pension deduction-when I worked for Poly, they didn't participate in the pension scheme. |

What should be deducted as pension from your salary is 4.5% less 50 Won. So, if you make 2 million, it's 89,500 Won. Your boss has to match that. You can check it out pretty easily on the net at the official site. I was being deducted 98550 Won on 2.2 million and checked it out on the net and also had official documents (lost them) confirming this. I call the pension office to verify my account from time-to-time. Pretty easy. Don't see how 29 something thousand can be deducted from your paycheck for pension. For taxes it sounds like it might be right. What are you getting dedcucted for taxes? How much do you make? I could figure it all out right here.
They can be dodgy, but you have to be forceful. You could also use some things as a weapon (taxes). No proper pension deduction when it's a benefit to you is a no, no. |

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. She's deducting medical insurance, tax, and pension and apartment maintenance montly fee and so on. It's written in Korean and not explained carefully. For taxes she resorts to an authoritative chart in a book of some sorts like a government tax bible of some kind. And moves a finger across to the right box like 'bingo' that's definitive.
I really just wanted to know what the pension monthly costs actually are to have something to go on. Because 29,000 is her montly deduction and that's definately not it. Since it's not right it's not going into pension that's for sure. Odd. Pretence of doing things by the book but, really, it's just being deceitful and chipping away at the old monthly pay.
The Korean face and face saving thing makes pointing out such discrepancies rather a challenge. Like, one can't just say 'leave my pay alone you thieving witch!'. |

CK,
At about 2 million per month:
29,000 could be right for tax. Not pension.
90,000 is about right for pension. (as jacl said) Of course, if the pension tax is not refundable to you then you don't want it anyway.
45,000 is about right for national health insurance. You should get a little insurance book every three months.
We don't know what you're making. These are all percentages. Other factors include overtime pay, bonuses, housing allowance vs paid housing, other cash compensation. Pension tax is 4.5 % (unless you're exempt). Your income tax should be between 0% to 3.5% unless you're really raking in the won. |

Thanks, man. I didn't know what the monthly health insurance rate is. Check. 45,000 won. I make 2 mil a month.
Yes, have the little white health insurance booklet. Didn't know that was replaced every three months. Thanks for that.
It's good to have these figures. Maybe there are other teachers out there reading this who can gain advantage by knowing the figures. Thanks again. |

By the way, those little insurance booklets don't always come right away. I don't know if it's the insurance people, the mail or what, but even though the insurance is paid on time or early, the booklet doesn't come. You can just use your old one till the new one comes. Your info is on the computer when the doctor or hospital enters your data. So keep your old one handy till you get a new one. |

Make sure the pensions done right and check to see after if you and your employer's contributions are being made with a phone call (easy). Don't stress on taxes if it's not an exagerated amount. This can be used as a weapon of sort after (comes in handy). Health is a fairly new mandatory thing, but you can get out of that if you want. This should, however, be verified with a phone call or by mail that you should get, to make sure it's being contributed towards.
Maybe your boss is on the up in up. Not sure. Probably not though. They don't want to give up that 100,000 a month. They'd rather steal 30,000 off of you to make themselves feel better. Trust me. |
