I was talking to a director a couple of weeks ago just hashing around ideas (she's Korean but she works in the States -- thinking about doing some stuff here) and she figures that even a low-budget feature would be at least 50,000 dollars.

.

yeah for a feature.. probably depending on which connections you have.

but I doubt very much anyone here is planning on a feature right now!
a feature is not a joke! and if I was to produce a feature I would use a korean crew! people who are trained , young and hungry to make a name for themselves. and just select a hand full of key pros..
renting equipment and buying film stock can be cheaper when using a film student on your crew also. they will get discounts...

a feature! I have thought about making a feature for 10 years since film school.. and one day I will produce one..
but I think the best idea now is.. is to make shorts! 10-20minute movies, art house type stuff and start to tap into the korean/ asian short film circles.. after you have a year or so under your belt, gather a great script and shoot a low budget movie!
find 50 million won is not hard once you can show passion, experience, and determination.. not hard at all to get 50 million won!
but no one is going to give it to a couple esl teachers who want to shoot a movie with no experience..

question is.. is this a hobby or is this going somewhere...
I think for now its starting out as a hobby and playing around some ideas

Director/writer/actor/experienced editor

the only thing I can't do is produce...(Because I tried)

Interested mostly in films like Koyannisqatsi, Baraka, Anamamundi, Gambling Gods & LSD, Cremaster...Check out my profile for more.

I think Korea is a very extraordinary place & there is definitely stuff here overlooked by the inhabitants...I am full & exploding with ideas...

Schooled at Toronto Film School, interested not in ideas but movies-in-the-making...

Hey guys,

Just wondered if any one is still wanting to make movies.

Also, if anyone knows someone who is looking to sell a semipro camera, along the lines of the Panasonic DVX100B or the Canon XHA1, I would be very much obliged.

peace! Cool

If it has not been made can I be the lead star? I can cry on cue, I do it all the time to get what I want.

It never got made. Essentially it broke down over vision- while it was originally planned to be a half-assedly made comedy picture, some people showed up at the meeting carrying head shots and demanding serious scripts. This of course freaked out everyone else who was there- all 34 people. By the next week, only 4 showed up and the movie was effectively iced. Here are my tips:
1) Have a damn camera. Surprisingly few of the movie making plans are made by people with cameras.
2)And sound...unless you decided not to make one of those new fangled talkies.
3) Make sure that when you do decide to get started, that people know from the ad what type of film you are making
4) and have your script set so that its concrete and firm
5) Be aware of sets, you are doing true guerrilla film making here, if the cops catch you- good luck.

As a final note, it looks like I'll be back in February- perhaps we can get a crew then or I can watch the movie you all have made.

Just make sure you have no religious nuts show up with the suggestion that we dress up as Nork commandos to do a scene at the Korean War Memorial.

Still my script regarding the Zombie *beep* romance would have ruled.

I have a student who tries to pull that. I sent him to the head teacher twice this week.
