I agree with 99% of the above comments.
Korea is not for everyone and good job for trying and not bailing at the first sign of problems dealing with life here. The job and your colleaugues are also major factors here. If you scored the right job (it is a bit of a lottery, with just a few few more winners) then you could have had an easier time.
I'm in Korea and I love it, but some people can't handle it and freak out. I had an American coworker who was convinced that 'every Korean was out to get him!' and he got angry at me for seeming to handle life here OK.
People who have been here a little while fall roughly into two groups: Those who just get their head down and work like crazy and think about the money, and those who acquire a significant other, get to learn some of the language and then come to the realisation that life here is what you make it. There is a third category of outright nutcases who spend time here as they couldn't do anything else back home, but thankfully that makes up only maybe .5% of English teachers here.
Well done for trying and remember you're not a failure for giving it a go. Good luck in future endeavours. |

Amazing! An honest non-American.
I'll tell you, this country is sure thick with expats who have a complex about the USA. Someone said it before, and it's true: it's like in high school when everyone hated the rich kids because they had everything, while secretly wishing they were in their place. |

And most of those rich kids deserved a good kick in the a$$ to bring them down from their smug arrogance into the real world.
(by the way, I never attack America, but I sure as hell will attack arrogant people from any country, including Canada and England) |

| Wait wait wait. Your boss wanted you to have sex with a K-girl. That is rare. If you could have stayed that school (the boss) would have been a gem. |

| Interestingly, other than the hagwon owners themselves, the biggest problems I've had in Korea have been with, you guessed it, FOREIGNERS. |
