An E2 extension & a reentry permit are 2 different animals.
As the OP discovered, getting an E2 extension may or may not involve getting a stamp in your passport. An update on your ARC (& in your immigration file) is all you need. This has nothing to do with leaving the country & coming back.
A reentry permit is applied for separately (& involves a different form). Its convenient to get it at the same time as your E2 extension but you can do it anytime. This definitely involves a stamp in your passport or you'll have problems at the airport. |

Your ARC is the only thing that needs to be extended. Your visa in your passport is only needed for you to enter the country. It is not necessary for you to stay in the country (that is what your ARC is for), so there is no reason to update the visa in your passport for simply staying longer.
However, you should be aware that now that your visa is expired, if you had a multi-entry visa, that is gone now, so if you plan to take a trip out of Korea and come back in the coming year, you will need to go back to immigration to get a re-entry permit put into your passport. I usually do this at the same time as extending my sojourn because it saves a trip to immigration. There is an immigration office at the airport where you can do this as well. |

People stop confusing others...
basically this is how it is..
If renewing/extending your E2 VISA then you don't need an adjustment in your passport...they will write the extension on the back of your alien card and sometimes scribble something(usually the date) over your original e2 visa...
How did RE-ENTRY VISAS come into this...of course you need one, it doesn't matter if you have been here for 1,2,3 years at the same school you will need to get one....it is a completely DIFFERENT VISA MATTER to a visa extension...
The problem with daves is there are often too many cooks who more often than not don't know what they are talking about and this is where misinformation begins. |

But I knew something would be.
justbecause, I share your frustration that, on this board, five different people will put out five different pieces of information (often in direct contravention each other and often wrong), but, while the OP only asked about the passport not being stamped, I think adding the information about the re-entry permit is important to the discussion because both can be gotten at the immigration office.
Either because I didn't ask the right question (or misunderstood), or the person I spoke with at immigration gave me the wrong information, I had to scramble at the airport when I was told that I didn't have a re-entry permit. If this discussion helps someone by raising their awareness about the re-entry permit, good. |

Sorry to be so harsh..
I find the problem on daves is that it is populated by newbies, that is all well and good and i welcome everyone and anyone but these newbies dispense advise which often is errornous which starts a cycle of misinformation.... |
