So I'm able to go down the street and purchase a humidifier in the middle of the night at the HomePlus, but I can't seem to find shoe laces here (Seoul). I've been to a few shoe stores, but I guess its just my ignorant Western bias that would expect a SHOE store to have SHOE laces.

Hopefully a reader here will take pity on my poor chewed through laces and tell me where to find some more. I'm on the verge of buying a whole new pair of shoes to get to the laces. I need dress shoe laces, by the by.

Funny, I never heard of anybody having trouble getting laced in Korea...

Try one of those little shoe repair shacks.

I've never needed to buy shoe laces. When I buy a new pair of shoes I doubleknot the laces at just the right slackness for slip on / slip off & never touch them again.

i went through the same dilemma shortly after arrival in seoul. i found some at dongdaemun market -- just look for the people selling shoes -- there are about a thousand of them.

try your local jimjilbang!!! The shoeshine/repair guy there will even lace 'em (for 1,000 won) while you lounge in the whirlpool!!!! Now that is another way of getting laced.

(but be careful, he may lace them strangely, like he did mine. I had to redo the job)

I've had that problem several times in Korea as well.

Ultimately I found shoelaces in the subway exit/entrance somewhere in Jongno or Namdaemun being sold by an old ajumma.

Shoelaces have been a problem for me, too. I second the recommendation to check out every little cart/wagon, piece of cardboard where someone is selling things outside subway stations and markets. The other place is the area of the city where they sell hardware, tools, and shoe-repair supplies wholesale. If you can find this place, you can find shoelaces! I can tell you where it in in Gwangju...

O.K, don't shoot me for this answer, but I have used pipe cleaners for shoe laces, and have also used ribbons. That pink stuff that is used for tying things also works.

But I also have found shoe laces in shops that sell sneekers. last time I wanted to buy a pair, I got one for free. Look around.Just remember pipe cleaners....
