Hi folks.
I've taught in Seoul for a couple of years, and am currently doing MA work in Manitoba. I would like very much to spend a couple of months in Seoul this summer, before doing some volunteer work in Laos. But since I have courses again in September, signing a year-long contract is impossible for me.
Is it possible for me to sub for a couple of months? Has anyone ever done this? I've also looked at the possibility of summer camps, but I'm not sure exactly when these are held.
Any information at all would be much appreciated, thanks for you time and help.

People can get summer camp work legally. They have to get a visa for it, but there have been posts from people who did that.
Other people know more about summer camps than me, but I think they are held in July/August.
I'm sure there will be ads for them soon. Of course, employers will try to hire people in Korea before going to the effort of hiring overseas. |

There are a lot of summer jobs available. The easiest to get would be a summer camp (legally or illegally), but there are better ways to make money rather than being a monkey for a bunch of kids. |

How? Are there other alternatives to camps for summer work in Korea? I am currrently teaching in Canada and would love to teach there over the summer. (I taught in SK for 5 years between 1997-2002). Any info on summer jobs (camps or others) would be much appreciated! |

A few places offer some intensive courses on the weekend....usually during the weekend. When I was living in Daegu I'd take the train to Seoul and work Sat 8:00am - 10:00 pm (with about 2.5 hours break) and the same thing on Sunday.
Some of these gigs you can make over 2 mil for the weekend. I did it twice a year for 2 years. The money was great...but it was punishment.
The good thing is after you have a weekend like that....going back and working the summer camp at the uni was a joke. |

Just do a search about all of the tax problems foreigners have run into this past summer/winter while doing short-term work! The tax is not the same as if you were here on a E2. Some Korean employers are now charging massive taxes (like 30 or 40 percent, I think?), and it is highly doubtful that they actually turn it in. They probably pocket it. |
